Children sleep less

Children sleep less

Children sleep for a relatively short time, so parents must pay attention to this. Generally speaking, children sleep for a relatively long time, which is also related to the fact that children are in the developmental period. Good sleep can ensure the good development of children. If the sleep time is relatively short, parents should check in time to see if the child has some disease reasons. There are also certain differences in the sleep time of children of different ages. Let us learn about this aspect.

Is it okay for children to sleep for a long time?

Take babies for example. Newborns generally sleep for 16 to 20 hours, but some may be slightly shorter or longer. As long as it's about the same and the child's diet and other aspects are normal, there is no need to worry. On the contrary, if the baby sleeps too long, it will affect the digestive function. The child eats and drinks less, which can easily cause excessive contraction of the gastrointestinal tract, affect the secretion of gastric juice, and affect the digestive function. Furthermore, the baby’s immune function will also be affected, and its resistance may be lower than that of normal children. Respiratory diseases are also common in sleepy children. If the indoor air is not well maintained, children are prone to catching colds.

It's not just babies. If children of other age groups sleep significantly longer than normal children, it will not be good for their physical growth and development. There is a standard sleep time for children. A one-month-old baby sleeps about 17 hours. When a baby is one and a half months old, it may be 15 hours. And when a baby is nine months old, it will be a little less. For a one or two year old child, it is good to sleep about 12 hours a day. By the age of four or five, it's 11 hours a day, and at six it may be a little less. Children who go to school. 8 to 9 hours a day is good.

The above standards are not absolute.

Parents also need to consider their children's situation comprehensively and pay attention to their children's physical condition, etc. For children who sleep significantly longer, be sure to wake them up. You can use light every day to let your child know that it is dawn and time to get up. Or you can use the smell of rice to attract your children after the meal is ready. You can also play some soothing music to help your child wake up as early as possible.

Adequate and high-quality sleep is beneficial to children's physical health and can also help them develop a good character. However, it is not necessarily a good thing for children to sleep for a long time. It also needs to be comprehensively assessed based on the child’s age characteristics and physical condition. If it is too long, intervention should be made as soon as possible or the child should be taken to the hospital for relevant examinations.
