The addition of a baby to every family is the happiest and most joyful thing, because many of our families now have only one child, and we will treat the child as our treasure. If the child is healthy, we will feel very happy. Many times we all want the baby to grow up healthily. Sometimes the baby will get sick with a fever, or have cramps, but what happens if the baby has a fever or cramps? Then let’s take a look together! Because the nervous system of infants and young children is not fully developed, such as the poor inhibitory function of the cerebral cortex and the incomplete formation of the nerve myelin sheath, once they are stimulated by the outside world (such as high fever), the excitement can easily spread and cause convulsions. The first febrile seizure often occurs between 6 months and 3 years old, and relatives often have a history of febrile seizures or epilepsy. Generally, systemic convulsions occur a few hours after a sharp rise in body temperature, with symptoms such as eyes rolling up or staring, constant twitching of the face and limbs, loss of consciousness, and even cyanosis and incontinence. The convulsions are short-lived, lasting 5-10 minutes. Generally, there is only one convulsion in a fever course, and the whole body and general condition are good after the convulsion. 30%-50% of children may suffer from febrile convulsions when they encounter high fever. Infants and young children who often have high fever convulsions should take antipyretics, sedatives or place a cold towel on their head once a high fever occurs. They can also use alcohol baths to achieve timely cooling and prevent convulsions. When convulsions occur, emergency treatment is required, such as lying on the side, loosening the collar, cooling down, and placing chopsticks or the handle of a toothbrush between the upper and lower teeth to prevent biting the tongue. You can also press the Ren Zhong point. Children who experience repeated febrile convulsions may develop epilepsy in the future, so parents should pay attention to this. As children grow older, the development of the cerebral cortex gradually improves, and the number of convulsions in most children with febrile convulsions will gradually decrease until they disappear. The problem of why babies have fever and cramps has been solved. Many people think that it’s okay if babies are sick, because babies will get better slowly just like us adults. However, if the baby’s fever is serious, it will not be relieved by itself. Adults and babies are different. The baby’s body has not yet fully developed, so special attention needs to be paid. |
