At what age is it better for children to use pillows?

Parents are of course more concerned about their children's health, but many times, many parents don't understand some details in life. For example, at what age is it suitable for children to use pillows, and whether newborn babies need pillows. Some parents may be confused. Let us analyze for you, at what age is it suitable for children to use pillows.

Newborns generally do not need pillows. The purpose of a pillow is to support the cervical spine and relax the neck muscles. The adult spine has a physiological curvature at the neck. When lying flat or on the side, the neck is suspended in the air, so using a pillow will feel more comfortable. However, the spine of a newborn is straight, its physiological curvature has not yet formed, and the back and head are in the same plane when lying flat. Moreover, the head of a newborn baby is relatively large, almost as wide as the shoulders, so it is very natural for it to lie on its side without the need for a pillow.

However, if your baby likes to spit up, you can fold a cotton towel into two or three layers, about 1 to 3 cm high, and use it as a pillow, slightly raising his head to reduce spitting up.

If a baby born in winter wears thick clothes or has a soft mattress, his head will appear lower when he lies flat. At this time, you can choose a low pillow for him. If the pillow is too high, the baby's head will be raised, which can easily cause the head and neck to bend, affecting his breathing and swallowing, thereby increasing the risk of accidents. The baby's pillow should be placed horizontally between the lower neck and upper shoulders to avoid compression of his airway.

At what age does a baby need a pillow? When the baby is three or four months old, his cervical curvature begins to form, and he can use a 1 cm high pillow when sleeping. By the time the baby is seven or eight months old, his thoracic spine will have curved and he can sit alone. Also, your baby's head growth slows down, and his shoulders begin to become slightly wider than his head. At this time, the baby can sleep with a 3 cm high pillow.

I hope everyone will not ignore some of the life care issues of these children. If these small problems are not paid enough attention, they may cause some adverse effects and harm to their health. Therefore, we should pay more attention to these issues and create a better growth environment and conditions for children.
