What causes convulsions due to fever in children

Parents are more concerned about their children's physical health. When their children have some diseases, parents will be very worried. In fact, fever is a disease that children often suffer from. If it is not treated in time, it is easy to leave a root of the disease. Children will have convulsions when they have a fever, so what causes convulsions in children with fever?

When children have a fever, they may suddenly experience convulsions all over the body or in parts of the body. Sometimes they may even become unconscious and their eyes droop in the blink of an eye, which is really frightening and makes people feel at a loss as to what to do. This symptom, which causes temporary loss of consciousness, is called febrile convulsions. It is most likely to occur in children with poor physical constitution and young age (six months to five years old), and is accompanied by a high fever (upper respiratory tract infection). The probability of boys being affected is higher than that of girls.

These febrile seizures are not immediately fatal (the chances are very low), so if they occur you must remain calm and don't get too nervous by shaking or rubbing your child's hands and feet. If vomiting occurs, turn your head to one side to prevent vomitus from blocking your airway. If the convulsions continue within five minutes, or if the convulsions stop but the person is unconscious, medical attention must be sought immediately. While sending the person to the hospital, consideration should also be given to whether the airway is unobstructed.

Many children between six months and five or six years old may suddenly experience convulsions, foaming at the mouth, and loss of consciousness after catching a cold and having a fever. At this time, parents and kindergarten teachers were particularly nervous and even took some inappropriate protective measures.

First of all, it should be understood that due to the poor development of the central nervous system of children between six months and six years old, especially when they have a fever, it is easy to induce abnormal synchronous discharge of brain neurons. When brain neurons discharge abnormally, the whole body will convulse.

Children who often suffer from colds, sore throats and fevers should be carefully cared for, seek medical attention promptly if they have a fever, and reduce fever in time to prevent convulsions caused by high fever. When convulsions occur, emergency treatment is required, such as lying on the side, loosening the collar, cooling down, and placing chopsticks or the handle of a toothbrush between the upper and lower teeth to prevent biting the tongue. You can also press the Ren Zhong point. Children who experience repeated febrile convulsions may develop epilepsy in the future, so parents should pay attention to this. As children grow older, the development of the cerebral cortex gradually improves, and the number of convulsions in most children with febrile convulsions will gradually decrease until they disappear.

The above is an introduction to the causes of convulsions caused by fever in children. When this happens, it must be dealt with in a timely manner to avoid serious consequences. I hope everyone will pay more attention to the baby’s behavior in daily life to avoid serious harm to the child’s body due to failure to discover the disease in time.
