What to do if a 3-year-old child has a high fever and convulsions

Fever is a common disease in children, and most of the causes of fever are due to colds and coughs. However, when the child has a high fever all the time, you should consider whether it is caused by a viral infection. At this time, you should take the child to the hospital for examination in time. Some children may also have convulsions when they have a fever. So what should you do if a 3-year-old child has a high fever and convulsions?

Febrile convulsions in children are one of the common emergencies in pediatrics. They are mainly caused by excessive increase in body temperature affecting the central nervous system control function. When the temperature reaches a certain level, abnormal discharge of brain cells occurs, causing symptoms of systemic or local convulsions. It is recommended that when the child's fever reaches a certain level (moderate to high fever), it must be cooled down in time to avoid convulsions caused by prolonged high temperature affecting brain neuron activity.

If a child has a high fever convulsion, parents should provide emergency treatment on the spot. Do not hold your child in your arms, and do not shake him or her, as vibration will aggravate the symptoms. Put your child on the bed quickly, make him or her lie down, unbutton his or her clothes, collar, and belt, and place chopsticks or a toothbrush handle wrapped in a handkerchief, cotton, or gauze between the child's upper and lower teeth to prevent the child from biting his or her tongue. If the child's teeth are clenched, do not pry them open forcibly to avoid damaging the teeth. Keep the child's airway clear. It is best to keep the child in a supine position with the head tilted to one side to prevent vomit and mucus from entering the trachea. At the same time, you can use your thumb to press the patient's Ren Zhong and Hegu points (open the thumb and index finger of one hand to tighten the tiger's mouth, and press the transverse line of the thumb joint of the other hand on the tiger's mouth. The point where the thumb tip points is the Hegu point). While rescuing and sending the patient to the hospital.

It can be seen from this that when a child has convulsions when he has a high fever, it is because the child's body temperature is too high and affects the central nervous system. This situation is one of the emergencies in children. Parents should not be too nervous about this. When a child has a convulsion, they must be rescued in the correct way. Do not shake the child to avoid aggravating the condition.
