Is it good to give an enema to a child with a fever?

Is it good to give an enema to a child with a fever?

It is very common for children to have a fever in life. In some places, when a child has a fever, it is recommended to use enema to achieve the effect of reducing fever. There are many different opinions on this method. Generally speaking, the treatment effect is indeed good, but we must also understand that the child’s intestinal wall is relatively weak. If this method is used improperly, it may have adverse effects on the child’s intestinal area and may even easily cause intestinal perforation. Therefore, you must be cautious when using this method.

Is it good to give an enema to a child with a fever?

It is relatively rare to use enema to treat children's fever, at least it has not become popular yet. Although it can treat fever, it also has risks, so it is best to use enema as little as possible on children.

Enema therapy is the process of injecting liquid or medicine into the intestine through the anus to achieve cleansing or treatment purposes. To put it simply, it is a way to clean the intestines or administer medicine. When a child has a fever and refuses to cooperate with medication or injections, the doctor can insert a tube into the child's anus to feed medicine, which can help reduce the fever. This is a newer method of medication.

However, if you are not careful when performing enema, it may cause intestinal damage such as perforation and bleeding. Children are at greater risk because their intestinal walls are weaker. Moreover, giving children hormones and antibiotics that should not be used, and arbitrarily changing the way drugs are used, may increase the risk of allergies and drug resistance, and local drug irritation may also cause colitis.

Enema may also change the normal intestinal flora environment and induce intestinal infection. Retaining a large amount of liquid for a long time during enema may also cause water and electrolyte disorders in children, or even death. Therefore, when there are other ways to treat a child's fever, don't take the risk of doing an enema.

Does enema really work for children with fever?

Many children get better after an enema. Is it really useful to give children an enema when they have a fever? Is enema really that magical?

First of all, the salt water itself can take away some heat and help reduce the temperature. In addition, some of the medicines that are injected, such as many cold medicines containing acetaminophen, can also have a fever-reducing effect after being absorbed. Moreover, the body has its own temperature regulation mechanism. Even if you don't take medicine, most of the time the temperature will regulate itself when it reaches a certain level. This is why hyperthermia is rare.

In addition, most children's fevers are caused by respiratory and enterovirus infections, which are basically self-healing diseases. Most of them will get better without medication. It is not surprising that the child's fever subsided after enema treatment.
