How to deal with a child who has a fever but is in good spirits

Children are the treasures in the palms of their parents’ hands. I believe every parent has had the feeling of holding their children in their hands for fear of dropping them, or holding them in their mouths for fear of them melting. Therefore, when children have a fever, parents are particularly worried. However, the performance of different children during fever is not the same. Some children may appear to be in good spirits after having a fever. Faced with this situation, how should we deal with it? There are still many solutions to this problem.

1. Even if you find the most reliable and best doctor when your child has a fever, it does not mean that no matter what kind of fever it is, you can just see a doctor and get an injection and the fever will go away and the disease will be cured. There are some diseases, especially those caused by viruses, that up to now, there is still no medicine that can cure or eliminate them. When you encounter these diseases, pediatricians can only tell you what the disease is, how long the fever will last, and what the recovery will be like. They will also give you some pediatric care methods and precautions to prevent the child from developing serious complications and ensure that the disease proceeds smoothly. However, some parents have too high expectations of doctors. They love their children so much that they hope the fever will be effective with just one shot. If the doctor cannot meet their expectations, they will immediately go to find a second doctor, or even a third or fourth doctor. When these doctors are unable to reduce the fever within a certain period of time, they will go to the most expensive hospital and spend the highest fee to relieve their anxiety and worries. It just so happened that the disease was almost cured and the fever was about to subside, so this most expensive hospital became the best hospital.

2. Some viral infections have a fixed course of disease and fever duration. For example, measles typically requires a high fever of 4 days before the rash appears. Roseola infantum also requires a high fever of 3 days before the fever subsides. No good doctor can reduce the temperature or shorten the fever process.

3. For fever caused by bacterial infection, the use of antibiotics will help the patient recover because the pathogenic bacteria are eliminated and the fever process will be shortened. For example, typhoid fever used to take three or four weeks to subside. However, because these antibiotics or chemical agents are powerful tools for killing bacteria, people use them without restriction, regardless of whether it is a bacterial infection or not, and no matter what type of bacterial infection it is, as soon as a child has a fever, they use one or several antibiotics, and then change to another or add another one the next day. This will make bacteria resistant, and over time, super bacteria will emerge.

4. Choice of fever-reducing method: Sweating is of course the best way to dissipate heat, the fastest and most effective. But you should pay attention to dehydration and use it with caution. The most commonly used medicine is antipyretic.

When a child has a fever, the first thing parents should do is to calm him down. Staying calm does not mean sending the child to the hospital immediately. In fact, there are many things parents can do for their children at home. For the symptom that children have a fever but are in good spirits, you may wish to use the methods introduced above. I believe that as long as you persist, you will be able to help your child solve this disease.
