Baby's seasonal diarrhea

Baby's seasonal diarrhea

Some babies will have diarrhea when the seasons change, which makes parents feel very anxious. There are many reasons for babies' diarrhea when the seasons change. It is usually caused by changeable weather. It is mainly caused by the invasion of viruses by babies. It may also be diarrhea caused by water loss, improper diet, poor digestion, etc. What are the reasons for babies' diarrhea when the seasons change? Let’s take a look at it next.

1. What are the reasons why babies have diarrhea when the seasons change?

1. Water loss: If your baby suffers from diarrhea, he will lose a lot of body water and may even become dehydrated. At this time, you must pay attention to water replenishment.

2. Indigestion due to diet. Children’s gastrointestinal function is relatively weak. That is to say, if you provide them with a variety of food, or the amount provided is too much, or the meal intervals are too short, that is, if you feed them frequently, the child will have indigestion problems and cause diarrhea.

3. Colds caused by changeable weather. When the temperature turns cold, the baby is invaded by viruses, which causes the baby's intestinal peristalsis to increase. If the abdomen is cold again, the intestinal peristalsis will increase faster, which will aggravate diarrhea.

2. Wrong treatment methods for baby diarrhea:

Myth 1: All diarrhea is caused by bacteria

Some mothers give their babies antibiotics to reduce inflammation as soon as they see their babies have diarrhea. In fact, diarrhea can be caused not only by bacteria, but also by viruses or fungi. For example, the autumn diarrhea suffered by the baby is caused by rotavirus infection. Taking antibiotics will not be effective for this type of diarrhea. It will only cause intestinal flora disorder and lead to more severe diarrhea.

Some antibiotics may even damage the baby's auditory nerves or cause the baby to grow short in the future. Therefore, if antibiotics are not effective, stop taking the medicine immediately and see a doctor as soon as possible.

Myth 2: Adding sweets to complementary foods for babies with diarrhea

When babies have diarrhea, mothers often add some sugar to porridge or rice soup, thinking that this will both replenish calories and make it easier to digest. However, this will only make the diarrhea worse.

Because diarrhea damages the intestinal mucosa, it cannot break down sugar into monosaccharides that can be absorbed by the intestines, so water passively enters the intestine from the intestinal wall, causing an increase in water in the intestinal cavity and an increase in the frequency of bowel movements.

Myth 3: Frequent bowel movements are diarrhea

Some mothers often rush to give their babies antidiarrhea drugs in this situation, but the problem is not that simple. Because babies under 6 months old may often have yellow-green loose stools after feeding. The frequency of bowel movements ranges from 4 to 6 times a day to more than 10 times a day, with milk clots or a small amount of clear mucus in the stool.

This situation is more common in breastfed babies. In fact, it is a physiological diarrhea. As the digestive function gradually develops, the condition will naturally improve after adding weaning food, and it is not a case of enteritis.

3. Notes

As long as the baby has a normal appetite, is in good spirits, responds well, sleeps well, is gaining weight, and has normal stool tests, there is no need to take antidiarrheal drugs to avoid affecting normal intestinal function.
