How to correct stuttering in children?

When parents encounter the problem of stuttering in children, they must have the correct solution, and tell themselves that they must never verbally intimidate their children, because this will only make them more frightened and afraid to speak, which will affect and hinder the correction and treatment of stuttering. Therefore, below, we recommend some methods for parents to correct children's stuttering.

Stuttering is a very complex speech disorder. People who stutter not only have abnormal speech behaviors, but often also have emotional distress and changes in their attitude and way of dealing with things. Different stutterers have different specific manifestations. Due to the complex nature of stuttering, the treatment of stuttering is also very complex and diverse.

Currently, stuttering treatment is mainly focused on non-drug treatment, including speech training, psychotherapy, bioelectric feedback metronome, changing vocalization methods, delayed speech feedback methods, sound masking, etc. Treatment should be tailored to the individual's stuttering characteristics, personality, emotions, behaviors, etc., and appropriate treatment methods should be selected for the individual. Mild and moderate stuttering in children can heal itself, but severe stuttering requires correction.

It is generally believed that about 80% of children's stuttering can heal itself as they grow older, but early intervention by parents or therapists is important. First of all, we must eliminate parents’ disappointment and discriminatory attitudes, remind children to speak slowly, do not criticize or punish children, ease their nervousness, enhance their confidence, reduce their fear of stuttering, and prevent them from paying too much attention to their speaking process. Parents should talk to their children slowly and relaxedly, with plenty of pauses, allowing children to speak at their own pace and giving them enough patience and affirmation.

In fact, stuttering is a very easy problem for children. For some children, the condition can be alleviated and cured by themselves when they grow up, but for some people, the condition is not effectively corrected. Therefore, parents and friends cannot ignore this problem. They must understand the most, safest and healthiest methods to help them quickly correct the stuttering problem.
