Reasons why children do not gain weight

Most babies weigh between 5 and 7 kilograms after birth, and their weight will gradually increase with their subsequent nutritional intake. However, some children do not gain weight significantly. This is mainly because the mother's nutrition is uneven when breastfeeding the baby, and the baby's intake of nutrients is relatively low. If this state is maintained for a long time, it will have a great impact on the child's growth. When the child is about one year old, you can make some complementary foods to supplement the baby's body nutrition.

The average weight of a baby when it is born is around 6 or 7 kilograms. The weight of the baby gains rapidly in the first six months after birth, especially in the first two months when the weight increases faster every day. The first year after birth is the year in which children gain weight fastest. During this period, the rate of weight gain slows down with age.

After 1 year old, the child's physical development slows down, but within 1 to 2 years old, the baby's weight will still increase slowly, with an average increase of about 1.5 kilograms per year.

However, the child's weight varies from person to person, and it may not necessarily be the same as the amount of weight gain mentioned above. If the difference is too great, you should look for the cause. If a child gains weight too quickly or too slowly, it should be taken seriously.

Slow weight gain in infants may be caused by insufficient nutrition intake, poor digestion and absorption, and chronic diseases. Infants under 1 year old should mainly feed on milk to ensure sufficient milk supply. When infants start to eat complementary foods at 6 months old, it is best to ensure that they drink some milk every day.

When adding complementary foods to babies over 6 months old, you should add nutritious rice flour, thick porridge or soft noodles. Vegetables and fruits should be eaten, but they contain very little energy.

Some parents only consider the nutritional aspect and believe that complementary foods such as rice cereal are not as good as breast milk or formula powder. Therefore, they are not very enthusiastic about adding complementary foods. In fact, complementary foods can not only provide rich nutrition in a timely manner, but also increase the time that breast milk or formula powder stays in the baby's gastrointestinal tract, thereby increasing the baby's absorption rate of breast milk or formula powder.
