At what month do babies start teething?

Growth is a slow process. If problems are discovered earlier during the growth process, the earlier they can be treated, and the healthier the body will be. Teething is a process that everyone has to go through, so when should children start to grow teeth? Every child has different physical conditions and inherited genes, so the time period for teeth growth is not necessarily the same, but there are roughly the following stages.

The early or late growth of teeth in infants and young children is mainly determined by genetic factors. Usually babies start to grow teeth 6 to 7 months after birth. Children with early teething start growing teeth at 4 months, and children with late teething do not start growing teeth until around 10 months. Some children do not grow their first deciduous tooth until after 1 year old. This situation is related to the speed of bone growth during infancy.

If infants and young children have teeth that erupt too late or in the wrong order, it may be a manifestation of rickets. Delayed tooth eruption in infants and young children may also occur due to severe infection or hypothyroidism. It is not possible to determine whether infants and young children are calcium deficient simply based on the time at which their teeth grow. If your child does not have teeth and has other abnormalities, you can go to the hospital for examination and treatment. Even if the late teething is caused by calcium deficiency, you should not blindly supplement calcium and should not be misled.

In addition, it is normal for infants and young children to have different teeth eruption times. If your baby's deciduous teeth have not erupted after 10 months, there is no need to be nervous. As long as the child is healthy and has no other problems, it doesn't matter if the first deciduous tooth comes out as late as one year old. As long as you pay attention to proper feeding, add complementary foods for the baby in time, and get more sun exposure, the baby's teeth will grow naturally.

Some parents think that their children are calcium deficient when they see that their children have not grown teeth when they should, and they give their children cod liver oil and calcium tablets. This is not advisable. Whether to supplement calcium for children should be decided based on the actual physical condition of the child. Late teething in children does not mean that they are calcium deficient. This should be decided based on a comprehensive analysis of the child's physical condition and the symptoms they manifest. Children's calcium deficiency is often manifested by slow closure of the fontanelle, thick hair, excessive sweating, crying, etc. At this time, under the guidance of a doctor, some calcium medicines and cod liver oil drops should be appropriately supplemented, and attention should be paid to the proper complementary food.

Usually this phenomenon occurs in children during the teething period of 4-10 months, which is a relatively reasonable time period. If the teeth have not come out during this period, you can consult a doctor. Generally, if the child is healthy, it is just a lack of calcium. As long as timely supplementation is given, the teeth will come out soon. If the teeth have not come out yet, you should seek medical attention in time.
