What to do if a three-month-old child is anemic

A three-month-old baby is definitely very weak physically. This is also the time when the baby is most susceptible to illness. If the baby is well cared for, the baby's body will become strong. However, for many children with picky eating habits, a three-month-old baby will suffer from anemia. If the baby does not eat milk or milk powder, malnutrition will cause anemia. So what should a three-month-old baby with anemia do?

Anemia means a decrease in the number of red blood cells or a decrease in the amount of hemoglobin. Check whether the baby is anemic. Only blood tests can reflect the baby's true condition. Due to the imperfect hematopoietic system in infancy, short-term self-limiting physiological anemia will occur. The hemoglobin level will drop to 110g/L at 2-3 months, but will gradually return to normal after 3 months. The gold standard for diagnosis varies with the baby's age.

It can also be said that low HGB during this period is normal and you don’t have to worry too much about it. As for the theory that anemia is caused by rapid growth in infants, there is a lack of sufficient theoretical basis. However, one reason is that you feed your baby with milk powder, which leads to an imbalance of some trace elements.

You should wait until your baby is four months old before adding complementary foods to her. The baby's digestive and absorption system cannot yet accept complex food structures. If you add complementary foods to your baby too early, she will suffer from indigestion, which will put a lot of pressure on her immature kidneys and leave hidden dangers.

The main thing is the egg yolk, which has the highest iron content. Babies under one year old cannot eat egg white. Crush the egg yolk and add it to the milk powder to eat together. Start with one quarter of an egg yolk. After a week, if his bowel movements are normal, increase it to one half. After another week, if his bowel movements are normal, increase it to three quarters, and so on. During this period, if the stool becomes looser than before, continue feeding at the stage where you have already added food and do not add any more. This is the baby's body slowly adjusting.

Anemia is mainly caused by iron deficiency. If it is iron deficiency anemia, dietary supplements are needed. You can let your baby eat more iron-rich foods, such as animal liver, blood skin vegetable (can be fried with pork liver), etc. In addition, when cooking in an iron pan, you can add an appropriate amount of vinegar for frying or boiling, which also has a certain iron supplement effect. Children with anemia will have their appetite affected. It is recommended that you first ask your doctor to use medication to correct your baby's anemia, and then make a reasonable diet arrangement for your baby to supplement his diet. Most cases of anemia in babies are iron deficiency anemia, which is caused by nutritional imbalance, gastrointestinal dysfunction or relative lack of hematopoietic substances. After a normal child is born, a lot of iron is stored in the body, which is enough for the child's growth and development for 3 to 4 months. However, as the child grows, by the time he is six months old, the stored iron in his body has been exhausted. At this time, the child's growth and development is in a very rapid period. By the time the child is 1 year old, the blood volume will increase by 2 times compared to when he was born, and the total amount of hemoglobin will double.

In fact, when a child so young suffers from anemia, you should also find out the reason. You should see if it is because of insufficient milk that the child's anemia is caused by malnutrition. If this is the case, then you should eat more nutritious foods in your daily life. Such foods can produce milk and allow the child to eat more breast milk.
