Where to apply moxibustion for constipation in children

There are many reasons for constipation in children, which is related to the immature development of the child's gastrointestinal tract. Moxibustion is an option to improve constipation, but where should moxibustion be used for children with constipation? Moxibustion is a very good Chinese medicine treatment method, and it is very effective in treating constipation in children. There are two important acupoints for moxibustion, namely Tianshu and Zusanli. However, if parents perform moxibustion at home, they should pay attention to the time.

Moxibustion in traditional Chinese medicine starts with acupuncture points to regulate the balance of the human body. Moxibustion can be used in a gentle manner, with a focus on Tianshu and Zusanli. These two acupoints are important acupoints of the stomach meridian. They can not only help people with constipation to have bowel movements, but also help people with diarrhea to stop diarrhea. Therefore, the effects of these two acupoints reflect the bidirectional regulatory effect of moxibustion points, which is also the unique charm of moxibustion. During moxibustion, perform moxibustion on each acupoint for 15 minutes, once a day. To increase the effect, you can use moxibustion through ginger, using the same method and acupoints as above. This can enhance the regulating effect and relieve symptoms faster.

Moxibustion acupoints for constipation treatment (main acupoints)

1. Tianshu

[Standard Positioning] When locating the acupoint, you can lie on your back. The Tianshu point is located in the middle abdomen of the human body, 2 inches on both sides of the navel.

2. Daheng

[Standard location] Heng point is located in the middle abdomen of the human body, 4 inches away from the navel.

3. Large Intestine Acupoint

[Standard location] On the waist, 1.5 inches lateral to the spinous process of the 4th lumbar vertebra.

4. Branch ditch

[Standard positioning] Stretch your arm and place your palm downward. Locate the acupoint 3 inches directly above the midpoint of the transverse wrist line on the back of your hand, between the ulna and radius, opposite to the Jianshi acupoint.

5. Chengshan

[Standard Positioning] Chengshan point is on the measured midline of the calf. When you extend your calf or lift your heel, you can see that when the middle muscle on the back of the calf (rectum muscle) contracts, a herringbone-shaped bifurcation is formed. Chengshan point is at the apex of this herringbone-shaped groove.

The treatment method of moxibustion is to do mild moxibustion with moxa sticks or moxibustion box. A 3-hole moxibustion box is recommended for the abdomen, and a single-hole moxibustion box is recommended for the back. Moxibustion the Zhigou point directly with moxa sticks, or directly tie a portable moxibustion stick. Each time, each acupoint is done for 15-20 minutes, and a course of treatment is 7 days.

In addition to using moxibustion treatment, children can develop the habit of not being picky about food in their daily lives, eat more fruits and vegetables, eat more fatty foods, drink more water, and develop the habit of defecating on time. Except for using laxatives in serious cases, try to minimize the exposure of children to medicines in normal times, and treat everything mainly through diet therapy and daily habits. This will help reduce the toxins left in the child's body by taking medicines and can also improve the body's immunity.
