Nursing care for premature infants born at 34 weeks

A baby born prematurely at 34 weeks is at a greater risk for children born at this age. So for parents to ensure that their children can grow up smoothly and not develop other diseases, they must provide care in all aspects. So parents want to know what kind of care is provided. In order for you to receive the best care as soon as possible, please read the following introduction.

The key to caring for premature babies lies in the following four points:

1. Keep warm: Keep the indoor temperature at 27-28℃ and the relative humidity at 55-65%. Since the temperature and humidity in general rooms are difficult to meet these requirements, premature babies can be placed in an incubator after birth.

2. Body position: The premature baby's head should be tilted to one side to allow mucus in the mouth to flow out, avoiding mucus or vomitus from being inhaled into the trachea and causing suffocation.

3. Feeding: Due to the different maturity of premature babies, their sucking abilities are also different, so different feeding methods can be used. For children with normal or slightly poor sucking ability, they can be fed with breast milk or formula milk, but attention should be paid to the slow feeding speed to avoid choking or suffocation of the child. For premature infants who have poor sucking ability or cannot suck but already have swallowing function, you can use a dropper to drip milk into their mouths. For children who are unable to swallow, they should stay in the hospital for tube feeding, which involves inserting a latex tube into the child's mouth and injecting milk directly into the stomach with a syringe.

4. Prevent infection: This is the key to improving the survival rate of premature babies. Premature babies should not come into contact with people suffering from colds, bronchitis, diarrhea and other diseases, and caregivers should be careful to wear sterilized isolation clothing. The clothes, diapers and bottles of premature babies should be boiled and sterilized regularly. Open windows regularly to ventilate the room to ensure fresh air.

complication

Because the organ systems of premature babies are not yet fully developed and their vitality is poor, they are prone to diseases such as lung disease, intracranial hemorrhage, infection, scleredema, etc., which may leave intellectual disabilities or neurological sequelae. In addition, about 15% of premature babies die in the neonatal period. Premature birth is an important cause of perinatal mortality.
