Can cupping be used to treat baby diarrhea?

Parents who have raised children know that babies have relatively poor physical fitness and body resistance, and they can easily get sick if they are not careful. Among them, diarrhea is a common disease that babies suffer from when they are young. I remember that my baby often had diarrhea before he was one year old. At that time, I didn’t dare to give the child medicine or injections, always worried that frequent medication would cause harm to the child’s body. In fact, I later heard that baby diarrhea can be treated with cupping. So how does cupping treat baby diarrhea? Let's find out together!

There are generally two types of diarrhea in children. One is infection with cold, and the other is unclean diet or spleen and kidney deficiency.

1. Exogenous wind-cold

1. Symptoms

The child has increased bowel movement frequency, with more foam in the stool, accompanied by chills and fever, nasal congestion and runny nose, no thirst, white tongue coating, and red blood vessel patterns on the skin on the index finger side (near the thumb).

(II) Governing Law

(1) Acupoint selection: Dazhui, Feishu, Zhongwan, Shenque, and Tianshu.

(2) Location: Dazhui: On the midline of the back, in the depression below the spinous process of the seventh cervical vertebra.

Feishu: On the back, 1.5 inches lateral to the spinous process of the 3rd thoracic vertebra [push down 3 vertebrae from the Dazhui point, and you will find the 3rd thoracic vertebra. The acupuncture point is located about 2 horizontal fingers (index and middle fingers) lateral to its lower edge].

Zhongwan: On the anterior midline, 4 inches above the navel [lie on your back, on the upper abdomen, on the anterior midline, the midpoint between the navel and the sternocostal junction (above the pit of the stomach) is the acupuncture point].

Shenque: on the anterior midline, in the depression of the umbilicus.

Tianshu: On the abdomen, 2 inches on both sides of the navel.

(3) Cupping method: Simple cupping method, leave the cup for 5 to 10 minutes, then use moxa sticks to moxibustion the Dazhui and Feishu points, and perform gentle moxibustion for 10 to 15 minutes until the local skin turns red. Take once a day, 5 times as a course of treatment.

2. Improper diet and heat in the spleen and stomach

1. Symptoms

The children have more frequent bowel movements, or their stools are egg-drop-shaped or yellow-green, often with a foul odor. The child will vomit and feel thirsty, have a red tongue with a yellow coating, and purple blood vessels can be seen on the skin on the side of the index finger (near the thumb).

(II) Governing Law

(1) Acupoint selection: Zhongwan, Tianshu, Sifeng, Shangjuxu.

(2) Location: Zhongwan: On the anterior midline, 4 inches above the umbilicus [in supine position, on the upper abdomen, on the anterior midline, the midpoint between the umbilicus and the sternocostal junction (above the pit of the stomach) is the acupuncture point, see Figure 2-10-1].

Tianshu: On the abdomen, 2 inches away from the navel on both sides (see Figure 2-10-1).

Four seams: On the palm side of the 2nd to 5th fingers, in the center of the proximal interphalangeal joints, 4 points on each hand, 8 points on each side (on the palm surface of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th fingers, the midpoint of the transverse line of the 2nd interphalangeal joint is the acupuncture point.

The above is an introduction to cupping treatment for baby diarrhea. I hope the above introduction will be helpful to you. However, the baby's skin is relatively delicate, so the cupping time should not be too long. It is best to cupping until the skin turns red. I would also like to remind all parents that cupping for babies cannot completely cure the disease, it will only play a role in prevention and auxiliary treatment. If the child is sick, you should still see a doctor in time. Don't delay your child's illness.
