What should I do if my baby’s toenails grow into the flesh?

What should I do if my baby’s toenails grow into the flesh?

For adults, both their body organs and skin tissues are stronger than those of babies who have just been born, so for babies, everything is just a new beginning and everything has to grow slowly. Even the baby's nails are no exception. The nails of a newborn baby are very thin and soft, so you must be very careful when cutting the baby's nails. Babies are unaware of the danger and sometimes move around, so you must be careful. But some babies' toenails grow into the flesh. What's going on?

Compared with adults, newborn babies' nails are much thinner and easier to bend. The edges of the nails are deeply embedded in the nail bed, often giving people the feeling of "ingrown nails", but this is mostly normal. To check whether it is normal, the mother can gently pinch the baby's nail with her fingers. If it is indeed pierced into the flesh, the baby will cry to tell you that he is in pain. When cutting your baby's nails, be careful not to cut too deep, especially the nail edges on both sides. Do not cut too much. Cut the nail so that the top of the nail is flush with the top of the finger or slightly shorter. Fingernails grow faster, so it is recommended to trim them 2 to 3 times a week. Toenails grow slower, so they are generally trimmed 1 to 2 times a month.

Because infants and young children have very weak nails and delicate skin, and they love to move, parents or aunts should pay attention to the following 4 points when cutting their nails:

1. Choose nail scissors with sharp blades, thin blades and good quality to cut the nails of infants and young children. Do not use ordinary scissors to avoid cutting the fingertips of infants and young children. Don't cut your child's toenails too often, at least not too bald;

2. It is recommended to soak your child's feet in warm water every day. After drying, use a little cotton wool, rub it, and gently put it under the child's toenails. Do not push it in hard. Change it every day. Depending on how fast the infant's nails grow, they usually only need to be trimmed once a week. If you find split nails, you should trim them at any time. The nails on your feet are hard and thick, or they become soft naturally after washing your feet, and they are easier to cut.

3. As long as infants and young children are awake, they like to move their hands and feet. It will be much safer if their hair is trimmed after they fall asleep. For older children, you can tell them stories while cutting their nails.

4. When cutting the nails of infants and young children, be gentle and do not cut too much or too hard at one time to avoid causing pain. Cut it in a smoother way to avoid cutting it into sharp edges. After cutting, parents should touch the nail with their hands to see if the cross-section of the nail is smooth. If it is not smooth, use the small file on the nail clippers to file it smooth.

5. The socks and shoes for children must be slightly loose, especially when they are learning to walk, otherwise it will not only be bad for their toenails, but also affect their bone development and walking posture;

Babies and young children have very thin nails, delicate skin, and tend to move around a lot, so you must be extra careful when cutting your baby's nails. For new mothers, there are many problems about the baby that they don’t know how to solve, so mothers should learn more about how to take care of the baby so that the baby will be healthier.
