What happens if a newborn baby doesn’t poop for three days?

Many newborns do not poop, some for as short as half a day, and some for as long as 3 to 10 days. Generally speaking, it is not a big problem for babies to have a prolonged poop, but it cannot be ignored. Many mothers will be careless and choose to ignore this problem, but this small action is very detrimental to the baby's physical growth. The following is my personal experience.

If your baby doesn't poop for a few days, it may be that he or she is not full, so you must first ensure that your baby is full every day. You also need to see whether he excretes soft or hard stool.

When my baby was about 50 days old, he also started to defecate once every few days. The longest time was four days. However, the stool he defecate was still soft and mushy, so I knew he was not constipated. Constipation refers to the passage of hard, stringy or granular stools. You don't need to worry. This is the case for such a young baby. She has not yet developed the habit of defecating regularly every day, which means she doesn't know how to defecate at all. In this case, you should not use enema. The more you use it, the more dependent she will become, and her defecation reflex will become more numb, and the more you use it, the less she will know that she is defecating.

You need to massage your baby's belly every day. Use your three middle fingers to massage around the baby's belly button in a clockwise direction for 5 minutes each time, once in the morning and once in the evening. This can help speed up the baby's intestinal peristalsis and produce a bowel reflex. In addition, children should be trained to have good bowel habits from the age of two months old, so that they can defecate on time, preferably in the early morning or before going to bed at night. Defecation in the morning is best, and defecation at night can help children sleep well at night. Having a bowel movement before meals can help children eat well, but not having a bowel movement after meals. The mother should first observe the child's bowel movements, and then consciously schedule bowel movements according to the child's situation.

After understanding the baby's physical condition, if the baby has not defecated for 3 days, it is best for the mother to try the above method to help the baby smoothly excrete the feces that have been accumulated in the body for too long and help the baby excrete the old feces. I believe mothers will feel relieved about this. Watching their children grow step by step is the happiest thing for every mother.
