Is neonatal jaundice 19 serious?

Jaundice is a disease that occurs relatively frequently in newborns, so generally after a baby is born and is found to have jaundice, the hospital will place the baby in an incubator for ultraviolet light exposure. However, some parents may have questions: is it necessary to expose the baby to ultraviolet light as long as the baby suffers from jaundice? After all, ultraviolet light can cause great harm to the baby, so the editor has specially compiled some information for everyone.

This disease is commonly known as favism, and its full name is hereditary glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6D) deficiency. It is the most common hereditary enzyme deficiency disease. About 200 million people worldwide suffer from this disease. my country is one of the high-incidence areas of this disease, with a distribution pattern of higher in the south and lower in the north, and the prevalence rate is 0.2-44.8%. It is mainly distributed in provinces south of the Yangtze River, with the highest concentrations in Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and other provinces. The cause of G6D deficiency is a mutation in the G6D gene, which leads to reduced activity of the enzyme. Red blood cells cannot resist oxidative damage and are destroyed, causing hemolytic anemia.

The jaundice index (serum bilirubin value) in children is generally within the normal range if it does not exceed 15 mg/dL.

Neonatal jaundice includes physiological jaundice and pathological jaundice. Jaundice is generally divided into physiological jaundice and pathological jaundice. As long as it exceeds the scope of physiological jaundice, it is called pathological jaundice. Usually, two days after birth, the newborn's skin is visibly a little yellow, which reaches its peak at 3 to 5 days and most of the time disappears at 7 to 10 days. At this time, the jaundice index (serum bilirubin value) is generally within the normal range of no more than 15 mg/dL. Apart from yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes, there are no other symptoms, and it usually disappears without treatment.

Your child's bilirubin level of 19 is quite serious. First, hospitalize for observation and treatment. Second, cooperate with blue light irradiation treatment and take Yinzhihuang granules. Third, implement artificial feeding, stop breastfeeding, feed more boiled water, and get more sun exposure.
