What is the situation of vomiting in a three-month-old baby?

Many new mothers are troubled by a problem: their normally born newborns often have some milk leaking out of their mouths after feeding in the first few months after birth. This may happen several times a day, and some even vomit frequently. In addition to vomiting stomach contents, they may vomit brown gastric juice and yellow bile in severe cases. So what is the situation with vomiting in a three-month-old baby? The following is a detailed answer for everyone.

According to statistics from some hospitals, more than 1/4 of newborns who are hospitalized due to vomiting are caused by improper feeding, such as swallowing too much, overfeeding, large or small nipples that cause swallowing more air, or irregular feeding. This situation will improve after improving the feeding method.

Another part (about 1/6) of newborn vomiting is caused by the unsuccessful delivery process, which causes the newborn to swallow a large amount of amniotic fluid when passing through the mother's birth canal, thereby irritating the gastric mucosa. Often, babies vomit before they are fed and vomit violently after feeding. However, this type of vomiting can be cured by gastric lavage with light soda water (1% soda water).

Pneumonia and other infectious diseases or gastrointestinal dysfunction can cause vomiting, but the most noteworthy is vomiting caused by congenital digestive tract malformations, which requires surgery. There are also a few newborns who have persistent vomiting rather than digestive malformations, which may be caused by congenital metabolic diseases.

Therefore, if a newborn vomits, it is best to first consider whether there is any reason for improper feeding. If vomiting still occurs after the initial feeding and the child's weight does not increase, you should go to the hospital for examination immediately.

Since there are many causes of vomiting, it would help to make a timely diagnosis if parents can tell the doctor the date of their child's vomiting, the circumstances and frequency of vomiting, the nature and color of the vomitus, its relationship with breastfeeding, and the bowel movements, and take the vomitus and stool to the hospital for necessary hunger examinations.
