What to do if a child dislocates his arm?

Many families are still worried when they see their children's arms dislocated. After all, the children are still young. If the dislocation is not treated in time, they are worried that it will threaten and hinder their development and growth. In fact, we still need to have a comprehensive and correct understanding of the problem of children's dislocation, so that we can use the correct method to deal with it. So what should we do if children's arms are dislocated?

The baby's dislocation is caused by the ligament at the dislocation site being too long and the muscle control being insufficient. It will get better as the baby grows up. Be careful not to move the joint too much at the dislocation site. In order to have a strong body, you also need to enhance your baby's resistance and do more outdoor exercises, but the intensity of the exercise must be moderate.

Subluxation of the radial head at the elbow is the most common elbow dislocation in children aged 1-3 years old, and is also known as "traction elbow." Because the joint ligaments of children of this age are relatively loose, and the joint capsules are relatively flexible and weak, when the arms are stretched out, if they are suddenly pulled longitudinally, it can easily cause traction and weight bearing and lead to joint dislocation. Cases of children being sent to the hospital for arm dislocation due to parents' improper dressing and undressing posture or inadvertent pulling occur almost every day.

When parents pull their children up the stairs or slopes, they pull their children's upper limbs with force; when helping their children put on or take off their shirts, they pull their children's arms too hard; when children fall while walking, adults instinctively pull them up. These are also common causes of dislocation in children.

When a child is found to have a dislocated joint, parents should be careful not to force the injured joint to avoid increased pain or secondary trauma. Parents are not recommended to perform the reduction operation on their own. Unprofessional operation may aggravate the child's joint injury and make the treatment more complicated. Parents should properly fix the child's affected limb and send the child to the doctor for treatment as soon as possible. The fixation method for radial head subluxation is to fold a large scarf into a triangle and suspend the child's affected limb in front of the chest. For a dislocated shoulder, you can use a bandage, clothing, cloth strips, scarf or other fabric to tie the dislocated arm to the torso and fix it.

When family members know what to do if a child’s arm is dislocated, they will not be helpless when encountering such a problem. They will not affect the child’s emotions and cause them psychological pressure because of excessive worry. In fact, as long as they can take emergency measures in time and choose a regular hospital for treatment, they can be completely protected from harm.
