What causes vascular malformations in babies?

For many children, some diseases are more common because the child's body is relatively weak, so many pathogens can easily invade the body. Baby vascular malformation is a relatively common disease. The following editor will introduce the causes of vascular malformations. Many mothers can learn about it so that they can effectively avoid it in the future. If your child already has this disease, you must treat it in time so that you can recover.

What causes cerebrovascular malformations in children?

1. Causes of disease

Cerebral arteriovenous malformations most commonly occur in two locations: the great cerebral vein (also known as the vein of Galen) and the veins of the cerebral hemispheres. The great cerebral vein is located below and behind the splenium of the corpus callosum.

It is formed by the confluence of the left and right internal cerebral veins. It is a short, thick, thin-walled and fragile venous trunk that runs from front to back and eventually injects into the inferior sagittal sinus and then into the straight sinus. Arteriovenous malformation of the great cerebral vein refers to a venous fistula between the posterior cerebral artery or the superior cerebellar artery and the great cerebral vein, which allows arterial blood to flow directly into venous blood.

This results in a series of symptoms. Most of the large venous malformations in the cerebral hemispheres are located under the cerebral cortex, and the areas where they occur are mostly supplied by the middle cerebral artery. Other areas such as the basal ganglia, brainstem and cerebellum are also affected. Cerebral vascular malformations also include telangiectasia, cavernous hemangioma, etc.

2. Pathogenesis

Arteriovenous malformation

Also known as congenital arteriovenous fistula, it can be single or multiple in the brain. Arteriovenous malformation is mainly caused by the underdeveloped capillaries between the arterial and venous systems, which directly forms a short circuit between the arteries and veins, resulting in extreme enlargement of the arteries in the affected area.

It may even form an aneurysm-like malformation; the venous return around the lesion is poor, causing dilation and congestion. Under the influence of intravascular pressure, the deformed part gradually expands, eventually compressing the nearby brain tissue, leading to brain atrophy and easily causing bleeding.

In fact, many of the baby’s diseases may be caused by the mother’s lack of attention during pregnancy, so it is recommended that pregnant women have regular prenatal checkups so that they can discover some problems with the baby in time, which will also be helpful for eugenics. If the child already has this disease, you don’t have to worry too much. Just take good care of the child and keep the child on a light diet.
