What are the causes of bad breath in children?

I am a kindergarten teacher. Recently I found that the children in my class have bad breath, and it is particularly serious. What is the reason for this? I think as a teacher I have the responsibility and obligation to pay attention to the health of children, so I want to find out the reasons why children have bad breath. I think it has something to do with the living environment at home, or there is something wrong with the way parents take care of their children.

What are the causes of bad breath in children?

1. Corrupt halitosis

Putrefactive bad breath is mostly caused by poor oral hygiene. If children do not brush their teeth in the morning and evening, and do not rinse their mouths after meals, the dental plaque accumulated on the gum line and the food residues embedded in the teeth or in the cavities will ferment and decompose, giving off a foul odor. To eliminate this bad breath, you need to pay attention to oral hygiene. If you have cavities, go to the hospital for treatment in time. People with periodontal disease may also have putrid bad breath because food debris, necrotic tissue and pus in the periodontal pockets are acted upon by bacteria, producing indoles, sulfhydryls and amines. As long as periodontal disease is treated and the lesions are eliminated, the bad breath will also be eliminated. Necrotic inflammation in the oral cavity, such as necrotizing gingivitis, malignant granuloma and other diseases, will cause significant putrefactive bad breath. This is not a simple bad breath problem, and these diseases should be treated.

2. Purulent halitosis

Ulcers, erosions, and suppuration may form at the lesions of diseases such as foreign bodies in the nasal cavity of children, atrophic rhinitis, sinusitis, purulent tonsillitis, lung abscess, and bronchiectasis, which may cause bad breath. After the lesions are eliminated. Bad breath also disappears.

3. Bad breath caused by rotten fruit

It occurs in patients with diabetes and has an acetone or rotten apple odor. After diabetes is cured, this bad breath disappears.

4. Food-related bad breath

Food-related bad breath often occurs after eating onions, garlic, leeks, fish, shrimp, lamb, etc. However, if you stop eating these foods, the bad breath will disappear naturally in 1 to 2 days. If you chew tea leaves or dates in your mouth for some time, bad breath will be reduced.

5. Bad breath

Rancid bad breath is commonly known as acidic bad breath, which is more common in children. The main cause is a kind of indigestion caused by gastrointestinal dysfunction. This odor is often smelled when belching. After treatment, gastrointestinal function is restored and bad breath disappears.

To sum up, this is not about the reasons why children have bad breath. There are many different types of bad breath, caused by different reasons, so parents should pay more attention to their children’s daily living habits, especially their diet. Therefore, both teachers and parents should pay more attention to their children’s behavior, so that if they find bad breath, they can get timely treatment.
