June 6th of every year is National Patriotic Day. Protecting teenagers' eyesight has become an issue that parents pay attention to. With the development of modern technology, many children are exposed to electronic media for a long time, such as watching TV and playing games for a long time. In order to protect children's eyesight, some kindergartens now begin to check children's eyesight. The vision of five-year-old children gradually matures, but what should be the normal degree? Generally speaking, as children's physical and intellectual development continues, their vision gradually improves. The visual acuity of a 4-year-old child is 0.4-0.6; the visual acuity of a 5-year-old child is 0.6-0.8; and before school age, it can basically reach normal visual acuity of 1.0. It should be made clear that some children's vision is slightly lower than that of their peers, but their refractive power is within the normal range. Their vision will return to normal with age, which means their visual function development is slightly delayed. Some children have problems with their refractive power, and it will be difficult for their vision to reach normal levels in the future. Therefore, when you find that your child's vision is below the normal range, you should go to the hospital for consultation and treatment in time. Ways to protect your eyesight: 1. Do not over-strain your eyes: This period is a critical period for the eyes to utilize structural and functional plasticity within a certain range. Today, as social competition becomes increasingly fierce, parents hope that their children will master more skills. Therefore, many children start to learn computers, piano, etc. during this period. However, children's eyes are still in an imperfect and unstable stage. Using their eyes for a long time and at close range will lead to decreased vision and myopia. Therefore, when providing early education to children, we must not ignore the children's visual development. Special attention should be paid to limiting children’s close-up work time, which generally should not exceed 30 minutes each time. You can often take your children to look into the distance and guide them to try to identify a target in the distance. This will help relax the eye muscles and prevent the occurrence of myopia. 2. Monitor vision development as early as possible: Children at this stage can quickly master the use of international standard vision charts or logarithmic vision charts to check their vision with the help of adults. Monitoring of children's vision should begin as early as possible. In particular, the vision of both eyes should be checked separately in order to detect abnormal vision in one eye. Because the eye with poor vision often loses the opportunity to be used and develops into amblyopia, even with wearing appropriate corrective glasses, the vision still cannot reach normal, which affects the children's visual function, especially stereoscopic vision. Amblyopia can be caused by refractive errors (hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism), strabismus, etc. The earlier the treatment, the better the effect. It is generally believed that the best time for treatment is before the age of 6. Therefore, early detection of amblyopia is particularly important. Generally, vision examinations should be performed every 3 to 6 months, and any abnormalities found should be corrected promptly. Children who are eligible can undergo a mydriasis eye test at this stage to effectively predict the development and changes of their eye and refractive index. 3. Prevent infectious eye diseases: During this period, you should continue to pay attention to all health care issues in early childhood. At the same time, as children have more contact with the outside world, their chances of developing infectious eye diseases increase significantly. For example, the prevalence of trachoma in society has been greatly reduced over a long period of time in the past, but it has increased again in recent years. It is especially common among children who live in groups and those who often swim in public swimming pools. Prevention is the key. Children should regularly eat foods rich in vitamin A in their daily diet, preferably from various animal offal, such as cod liver oil, eggs, etc., as well as vegetables such as carrots, pumpkin, spinach, green peppers, etc. There are also foods rich in vitamin C, such as lemon, kiwi, hawthorn, tomato and so on. |
