Can a child who has had chickenpox get it again?

Many people have had chickenpox in childhood. As for the question of whether chickenpox will occur again, I believe many parents and friends want to know the answer because they are afraid that their children will get chickenpox again. So will children who have had chickenpox get it again? Next, this article will introduce you to the relevant content in this regard. If you want to know the answer, let’s take a look!

Will a child get chickenpox again after having it? Varicella is an acute infectious disease caused by the initial infection of the herpes zoster virus in the human body. It is more common among infants and young children. Although one can acquire immunity after contracting chickenpox once, a secondary infection cannot be ruled out in extreme cases. So children may get chickenpox again after having it, but the chance of getting chickenpox again is very small. Chickenpox is highly contagious, so when someone has chickenpox, they must be isolated in time and not take it lightly to avoid causing a wider range of infection.

Here are some ways to prevent chickenpox:

1. Do not contact patients. Patients are the only source of infection for chickenpox, so if there are cases of chickenpox in your area, do not take your children to crowded places and try not to go to hospitals, as these are places where bacteria and viruses gather.

2. Suspend classes at an appropriate time. If a child is infected with chickenpox in a kindergarten or school class, parents should request a suspension of classes, and the school should also take the initiative to stop classes and large gatherings and activities.

3. Isolation and observation. If a child accidentally comes into direct contact with the patient's chickenpox fluid, utensils contaminated by the patient, or is likely to be touched by the patient's droplets, the child should be isolated and observed for two to three weeks. Wait until the incubation period is over and if there is no disease, then the child can be allowed to come out.

4. Enhance resistance. Children should exercise more, keep exercising, and eat more foods rich in vitamin C to improve their disease resistance.

5. Get vaccinated. Vaccination against chickenpox is currently the most effective preventive measure, because chickenpox has an extremely long immunity duration and once infected, it will almost never occur again. Therefore, it is recommended that parents take their children to the CDC for vaccination.

From the above introduction, we can know that if a child has had chickenpox, he or she will generally not get it again, but there are exceptions to everything. There is still a small number of people who will get chickenpox again for some reasons. Therefore, parents must help their children prevent chickenpox. If you are really worried that your child will get chickenpox again, you can get them vaccinated!
