Some methods to help babies with constipation

The newborn baby couldn't defecate, which made the new parents anxious! Most parents nowadays have only one child, and they pay special attention to their children’s diet. Many children have dry stools and difficulty defecating when they are very young. For this reason, many parents are very anxious and look for doctors and drugs everywhere, hoping to improve this problem of their children. So let’s discuss and exchange ideas!

1. Food therapy:

The first thing to do for infant constipation is to find out the cause. If the baby is breastfed and the constipation is caused by insufficient breast milk, the baby will often suffer from weight loss, crying after eating, etc. For this type of constipation, the symptoms of constipation will be relieved as long as the amount of milk is increased. Babies who are fed with milk are more prone to constipation, mostly because the casein content in milk is too high, which makes the stool dry and hard. In this case, you can reduce the amount of milk and increase the amount of sugar, that is, increase the sugar content of milk from the original 5% to 8% to 10% to 12%, and increase the amount of juice appropriately.

2. Training bowel habits

You can train your baby to have regular bowel movements. Because the intestinal peristalsis speeds up after eating, the urge to defecate often occurs, so it is generally advisable to let the child defecate after eating to establish a conditioned reflex of defecation, which can achieve twice the result with half the effort.

3. Drug treatment

If the above methods do not work for infant constipation, you can use enema to relieve constipation. Enemas mainly contain glycerin and sorbitol, which can stimulate the intestines and have a laxative effect. Please note when using it. After the enema is injected into the anus, parents should clamp the buttocks on both sides with their hands to allow the enema liquid to remain in the intestines for a while, and then let the child defecate. This will have a good effect. At home, you can also use a soap head to insert it into the child's anus, which also has a laxative effect. The above simple methods of defecation may wish to try

Some babies have trouble defecating soon after birth, and only defecate once every one to two days or three to four days. What’s worse, if left untreated, the baby will not defecate, which often causes worry to parents. In recent years, some advertisements have been promoting "detoxification" and "big detoxification", as if feces staying in the intestines for a few more days will cause "poisoning", which undoubtedly increases parents' worries. In fact, there is no need to worry. According to our clinical experience, this type of constipation in infants is very common. The reasons for this are mostly related to the imbalance of nutritional components of mammals. Most of them are caused by excessive protein and fat and insufficient carbohydrates in milk, especially cow's milk and its products. As for protein, when the protein content in milk is too high, because the protein (such as casein in milk and milk powder) is difficult to digest and absorb, the excess will combine with calcium to form solid fecal masses. In addition to the most common causes of infant constipation mentioned above, there are some rare causes: such as perianal inflammation, or anal fissures caused by hard fecal masses or fingers digging, which makes the baby's anus painful during defecation, and eventually causes secondary constipation. At this time, the surface of the stool will be bloody. At this time, in addition to softening the stool, you should also change diapers frequently, clean the perianal area, and treat dermatitis.

There are many ways to relieve baby's constipation. This is just a collection of knowledge I have compiled. I hope that this information will be helpful to everyone. In daily life care, you should always pay attention to giving your children more water and not letting them get angry, especially newborn babies. Breastfeeding mothers should never let themselves get angry, as this will also affect their babies!
