Is circumcision good for children?

When children are six or seven years old, many parents will find that their little boys have some foreskin that is too long or even phimosis. However, many parents are hesitant. Since the children are still so young, should they undergo circumcision? If the operation is not performed, it may cause men to be infected with many male diseases and affect their sexual function.

There are two types of phimosis. One is true phimosis, which means that the glans cannot be fully exposed even after the penis is erect; the other is false phimosis, which means that the glans cannot be fully exposed at normal times, but can be fully exposed after the penis is erect. In addition, there is a condition called phimosis, which means that the glans penis cannot be exposed at any time. Because the foreskin is too long, secretions will accumulate. If they are not cleared in time, bacteria will grow and multiply, forming smegma, which will emit an odor and may even cause inflammation, called balanitis.

Surgery before puberty is generally not recommended. Phimosis refers to the situation in which the penis skin covers the glans penis in adult men, preventing the glans penis from being fully exposed. However, a child's penis has not yet reached puberty and has not yet developed normally, so the foreskin appears to be relatively long. After puberty, it generally becomes normal because the penis grows and the foreskin slowly retracts, which is normal; but before puberty, if phimosis occurs, affecting urination, and the foreskin has become adhered, surgical treatment can be considered. It is recommended to wait until the child reaches puberty before undergoing circumcision. If there is an infection, surgery should be performed after the inflammation subsides. The best time to perform circumcision is when the child is around 8-10 years old.

If the child is still young, it is recommended to observe for a period of time. If the foreskin is really too long or phimosis, or even there is foreskin traction or adhesion, you can take the child to the hospital for a circumcision surgery when the child is eight to ten years old. Many clinics can do it, and it is just a minor operation.
