What is the reason for the baby's twitching when sleeping?

Babies twitching while sleeping is a symptom that many babies have. Generally speaking, babies twitching while sleeping is also a disease. Therefore, for the twitching symptoms that occur when the baby is sleeping, parents need to actively find the cause and treat it to prevent the twitching symptoms from worsening and affecting the baby's sleep and health. I will explain it to you below, and I hope you all benefit from it.

Neonatal convulsions are a manifestation of temporary disorder of the newborn's brain function. For example, when a baby suddenly hears a sound, the muscles all over the body will tremble; when a baby wakes up from sleep, he will suddenly startle. Neonatal convulsions can also be seen in symptoms such as staring, nystagmus, high-pitched screaming, repeated blinking, swinging forearms back and forth, and facial muscle tremors.

There are many reasons that cause children to sleep, which may be related to neurological conditions, physical factors, immune factors, and respiratory problems, which can cause immune neurological disorders. At the same time, cervical spine injuries can also cause children to twitch during sleep. Parents must pay more attention. Occasional twitching during sleep is normal. Because infancy is a period of development for children, and the development of the nervous system has not kept up, it is easy for children to have twitching after birth. Long-term twitching may also be a symptom of epilepsy.

The causes of neonatal convulsions can be divided into two categories: infectious and non-infectious.

(1) Infectious diseases such as toxoplasmosis, congenital rubella, herpes simplex, and cytomegalovirus inclusion disease can cause convulsions in newborns. Another is infection after birth, such as sepsis, which in severe cases may develop into purulent meningitis or tetanus.

(2) Non-infectious ① Hypoxia or birth injury during birth. Some fetuses suffer from intrauterine hypoxia during delivery, causing cerebral edema, intracranial hemorrhage, asphyxia, etc.; or the use of forceps during delivery may lead to skull fractures or brain damage.

② Congenital brain malformations and hypoplasia, such as hydrocephalus, microcephaly, cerebrovascular malformations, etc.

③ Abnormal metabolism, such as hypocalcemia. Newborns fed with milk will have their calcium absorption affected and their blood calcium lowered due to the improper ratio of calcium and phosphorus in milk. In addition, hyponatremia, galactosemia, vitamin B6 deficiency, hypoglycemia, phenylketonuria, dependence, certain drug poisoning, etc. can all cause neonatal convulsions.

What's going on when a baby twitches while sleeping? Generally speaking, the main reasons for a baby's twitching while sleeping are physical constitution, immunity, infection and non-infection, congenital malformations, epilepsy, phenylketonuria and other factors. Therefore, parents should not take the symptoms of a baby's twitching while sleeping lightly and need to pay attention to it.
