What to do if baby's face peels

Peeling of the baby's face is a common phenomenon, but many parents do not know what causes it. Some parents think that it is because the baby's skin is dry, or that the skin on the face begins to peel because the baby's skin shrinks after being soaked in amniotic fluid in the mother's belly. Sometimes this phenomenon is always ignored. In fact, there are many reasons for peeling of the baby's face. If not properly cared for, it is particularly easy for the baby's skin to develop symptoms of infection. Let's learn about what to do if the baby's face is peeling.

What to do if baby's face peels

The keratinized layer of a newborn's skin, that is, the outermost layer of the epidermis, is easily shed due to its immature development. The inner layer of the skin is called the dermis, and between the epidermis and the dermis is the basement membrane. The basement membrane of newborns is not yet fully developed, and is delicate and soft, which results in a loose connection between the epidermis and dermis, increasing the chance of epidermal shedding. Moreover, newborns are in warm amniotic fluid before birth. After birth, they are stimulated by the external environment, such as cold and dry air, which causes the skin to shrink and become more prone to peeling.

Newborns born on or before the due date will have a layer of vernix caseosa on the surface of their skin. After washing, the baby's skin will peel off. This is not because the baby's skin is dry, but a normal reaction of the skin coming into contact with the air after the vernix caseosa is washed off. Some newborns have some fine lanugo on their shoulders and backs, which usually fade away after half a month.

The above is an introduction to what to do if the baby's face is peeling. After understanding it, we know that the baby's skin is relatively delicate and sensitive. If the baby's face is peeling during this period, you must pay attention to hygiene and cleanliness when taking care of the baby. Adults should not always touch the baby's facial skin with their hands. In addition, you must keep the indoor air ventilated. If there is any abnormality, you must consult a doctor in time.
