In life, some parents find that their babies also have bad breath. Many parents are very surprised when their children have bad breath. Why do three-year-old children have bad breath? In fact, there are many reasons why children have bad breath. Parents respond differently to different situations. Let’s take a look at what causes bad breath in three-year-old children.

What to do if a 3-year-old child has bad breath

1. Chinese medicine conditioning

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that bad breath is caused by two main reasons: dampness and heat in the stomach meridian. The treatment methods for bad breath caused by these two reasons are also different.

(1) Food stagnation type bad breath

The symptoms of food accumulation-induced bad breath include long-term poor appetite, sallow complexion and thinness, but good spirits. This situation is mostly caused by the baby's irregular diet or improper feeding. Therefore, Chinese medicine believes that this type of bad breath should be treated mainly by digesting food and soothing the stomach.

Medicinal materials: 10 grams of roasted malt, 10 grams of Shenqu, 10 grams of charred hawthorn, and 6 grams of Patchouli.

Method: Soak various medicinal materials in water for 20 minutes, then put them into the pot and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes. You can add appropriate amount of white sugar when drinking. Note: This prescription is for one day's worth of food for children around 3 years old.

(2) Dampness and heat in the stomach meridian

The symptoms of damp-heat in the stomach meridian include yellow and red tongue coating, accompanied by bad breath, restless sleep and irritability. Some babies sometimes also have dry stools. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that this type of bad breath should be treated mainly by clearing heat and drying dampness.

Medicinal materials: 10 grams of Erhua, 6 grams of Patchouli, 6 grams of Cymbopogon japonicus, 6 grams of Gardenia jasminoides. For those with dry stools, add 2 grams of rhubarb.

Method: Soak various medicinal materials in water for 20 minutes, then put them into the pot and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes. You can add appropriate amount of white sugar when drinking. Note: This prescription is for one day's worth of food for children around 3 years old. In addition to using Chinese medicine, children's bad breath can also be treated with Western medicine.

2. Western medicine treatment of bad breath in children

When the baby has bad breath, the mother can choose 1% hydrogen peroxide, 2% soda water or 2% boric acid water to gargle with the baby, which can help relieve the bad breath of children. But one thing mothers should pay special attention to is that antibiotics should be used under the guidance of a doctor and not abused.

Reasons why babies have bad breath

1. Sulfur halitosis: It is mostly local halitosis, which is caused by sulfur-containing gases produced by microorganisms in the mouth after decomposing proteins, peptides and amino acids. Among them, volatile sulfides are the main components that cause bad breath.

2. Ammonia halitosis: It is pathological and comes from systemic diseases, such as the respiratory system, digestive system, endocrine system, etc., but it is mainly gastric. The ammonia smell is mainly caused by Helicobacter pylori breaking down urea to produce ammonia. The acidic environment of the stomach is not conducive to the absorption of ammonia. When the gas in the stomach accumulates to a certain concentration, it is exhaled through the esophagus and the mouth. Ammonia bad breath can cause stomach problems regardless of whether you have them or not. Bad breath can occur as long as there are a certain number of Helicobacter pylori infections in the stomach.
