Is it a disease if a baby suddenly shakes while sleeping?

Babies should be very quiet when they sleep, unlike adults who may have many emergencies. However, some babies will suddenly shake when they sleep. Why is this? Is it a normal phenomenon in infancy or a symptom of some disease? In order to figure this out, today we will see whether the sudden shaking of babies while sleeping is a disease.

It is normal for babies to sometimes shake or cry suddenly while sleeping. This will gradually disappear as they grow older.

Waking up with a startle is a startle reflex that every baby has. This reflex is obvious in the first three months after birth and disappears completely after six months. The absence of this reflex in the neonatal period indicates brain damage; if one upper limb lacks the startle reflex, it suggests brachial plexus paralysis or clavicle fracture due to birth injury or other reasons. When there is brain damage or acute lesions, the startle reflex may be delayed or disappear. If it still occurs after 4 months, attention should be paid. If it still occurs after 9 months, it is a characteristic of chronic brain disease.

It will be fine if you stay by her side and hold her hand when she sleeps. When the startle reflex occurs, you can eliminate it by pressing any part of her body. If you sleep next to her, you will find that her sleep quality will be better. My baby is still like this at 4 months old.

The reason why he makes a fuss before going to bed is that he is fussy about sleep. When a child is fussy about sleep, it means that the child around one year old always cries and makes a fuss before going to bed. Once the adult picks him up, pats him, and rocks him, he will fall asleep quickly. Even some older children need adults to pat them or feed them a nipple before they can fall asleep. Children’s “trouble sleeping” often makes some parents upset and even lose their temper with their children. Little do people know that children’s bad habit of fussing during sleep is often cultivated by adults. The brain of a newborn is not fully developed yet, and the baby spends most of its time sleeping, about 18-22 hours a day, and is only awake for a short time. Children will feel tired soon after waking up, and often cry to express that they are tired. As long as the environment is quiet and comfortable, they will fall asleep instinctively after a while.

When the baby cries because of tiredness, you can use the following methods to induce the child to sleep: first, the mother should get close to the child so that he can see the mother's face; or the mother can look at the child and make a monotonous, low, weak "oh" sound; or press the child's one or both arms against his chest and keep the position in the womb, so that the child feels safe and he will fall asleep quickly. In this way, children will gradually develop the habit of falling asleep naturally. However, this is a method that is used before newborns develop the habit of being held before they can fall asleep. My baby is used to being held by her grandmother. I have tried it myself, but it has no effect on my baby. My baby can only fall asleep by being held and coaxed slowly or fed.

If your baby suddenly shakes while sleeping, there is no need to worry as long as it does not happen often. However, if this happens frequently when the baby is sleeping, it should attract the attention of parents, in case it is a hidden symptom of some disease. Otherwise, it would be so shameful not to know that the child is sick.
