What causes neonatal dacryocystitis?

What causes neonatal dacryocystitis? The birth of a newborn brings joy to the family. At the same time, many diseases will occur after the birth of the newborn. Parents still need to pay more attention, especially when the newborn has dacryocystitis, which will cause the child's eyes to become red and swollen and tears. This disease often affects the child's health. Let's talk about the specific causes of neonatal dacryocystitis.

1. Neonatal dacryocystitis is caused by the failure of the embryonic residual membrane at the lower end of the nasolacrimal duct to degenerate, which blocks the lower end of the nasolacrimal duct, causing tears and bacteria to accumulate in the lacrimal sac, leading to secondary infection.

2. Generally speaking, when a newborn is born, it is squeezed in the mother's birth canal, and the valve at the end of the nasolacrimal duct will rupture, thereby causing the passage between the nose and tears to open. When the valve at the end of the nasolacrimal duct does not rupture, tears cannot be discharged through the nasal cavity, causing the tears to accumulate in the lacrimal sac. Not only will the tears accumulate more and more, but bacteria will also breed and multiply here, forming pustules.

3. If the virality of these bacteria is very strong, they will penetrate the lacrimal sac and run into the surrounding tissues. At this time, the newborn will not only have a lot of tears, but also a lot of eye mucus, and the root of the nose below the inner corner of the eye will be red and swollen. This is acute dacryocystitis. If not treated in time, the lacrimal sac may become purulent and even break through the surface of the skin, forming a lacrimal sac fistula.

4. Neonatal dacryocystitis is more common in babies born by caesarean section without birth canal compression. However, the vast majority of children will improve within 4-6 weeks after birth after treatment, and a small number of children will have more serious conditions.

The above is an introduction to the knowledge of "What causes neonatal dacryocystitis?" There are many factors that cause neonatal dacryocystitis, which requires the attention of parents. When a newborn develops dacryocystitis, parents need to take their children to the hospital for treatment in time, and pay attention to the child's daily eye hygiene care.
