Can children really have acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a common method of TCM to treat diseases. It can better regulate some discomforts in the body without side effects, and massage according to the acupoints according to different symptoms of the body. However, we all know that children's immunity is relatively poor, and we must master the method when treating diseases. Let's find out together whether children can really use acupuncture.

Can children really have acupuncture?

Because children are in the stage of growth and development, acupuncture has its own characteristics, which is different from that of adults.

When hearing about acupuncture for children, many parents often feel fear and ask a series of questions such as "Can children have acupuncture?" and "How to give acupuncture to children?"

During the entire growth and development process, children's resistance, that is, immunity, is low and they are often prone to illness. But on the other hand, children are easy to recover after being sick. Based on these characteristics, when giving acupuncture to children, we often use small and short needles to relieve the fear of needles in children and their parents. When inserting the needle, the insertion should be shallow but not too deep, otherwise it will easily cause the child to cry and refuse to cooperate with the doctor, thus damaging the skin and muscles. For children with retained needles, we try to minimize the retention time according to different diseases and disease courses. When selecting acupoints, you can select them according to different diseases and conditions, so as to achieve the best effect with as few acupoints as possible. There are also certain requirements for the acupuncture technique. The needle should be inserted quickly to reduce the pain during insertion, and small lifts, insertions and twists should be made. Once the acupuncture effect is achieved, the needle should be removed immediately.

What should we pay attention to when doing acupuncture for children?

1. Doctors should concentrate and control the needle to prevent unnecessary harm to children when they cry or struggle.

2. Parents should fix the child's limbs after positioning the child to prevent the child from moving or struggling, so as not to affect the acupuncture.

3. When the child's fontanelle has not closed, acupuncture should not be performed on the acupoints on the top of the head. Areas of the skin with infections, ulcers, scars or tumors should not be acupunctured. It is not advisable to pierce the acupoints located on the chest, ribs, waist and back where the internal organs are located, straight or deep, so as to avoid damaging the organs and prevent accidents.

4. When acupuncture is performed on the eyes, Fengfu, Yamen and other acupoints on the neck, as well as the acupoints on the spine, it is important to maintain a certain angle. It is even more inappropriate to lift, insert, twist, or leave the needle in for a long time, so as to avoid damaging important tissues and organs and causing serious adverse consequences.

5. When acupuncture is performed on the acupoints in the lower abdomen for patients with urinary retention, enuresis, etc., the appropriate direction, angle, depth, etc. of acupuncture should be mastered to avoid accidental injury to the bladder and other organs and unexpected accidents.

6. Acupuncture should not be performed on children who suffer from fever, chickenpox, mumps, etc.

The above is an introduction to whether children can really receive acupuncture. After understanding it, we know that children can improve their physical condition through acupuncture in their lives, but there are certain dietary precautions. It is best not to receive acupuncture when they have a fever or chickenpox.
