Why is my child not growing? Is it because of calcium deficiency?

The phenomenon of children not growing taller is believed to be a problem that many parents are concerned about. When facing this phenomenon, you should pay attention to check. If there are no other problems, then you need to pay attention to whether it is caused by nutritional deficiencies or lack of exercise.

1. Don't miss the rapid growth period. When do children and adolescents grow fastest during puberty? Studies have confirmed that the peak of height growth for the vast majority of Chinese Han children is around 12 years old for girls and around 14 years old for boys; more than 90% of girls have the fastest height growth between the ages of 11 and 13, and boys between the ages of 13 and 15. In order to make children grow taller, parents should pay special attention to issues such as nutrition and exercise during their rapid growth period.

2. Pay attention to nutritional supplements. Nutrition is the key to children's physical growth. The energy, protein and amino acids required for normal physical growth must be supplied by food, mainly meat, eggs, beans and legumes. Bone formation also requires adequate amounts of calcium, phosphorus and trace amounts of manganese and iron. Insufficient calcium intake and vitamin D deficiency will cause insufficient bone mineralization. Vitamin A deficiency will cause bones to become shorter and thicker. Vitamin C deficiency will cause defects in the bone cell matrix and make it brittle, all of which will affect bone growth. At present, the average family's diet includes both meat and vegetables, and the nutrition should be comprehensive and sufficient. Parents should be careful not to let their children develop a habit of picky eating, and should not let their children eat too many snacks which will affect the intake of important nutrients.

3. Don’t neglect exercise. Physical exercise can enhance the body’s metabolic process, accelerate blood circulation, promote the secretion of growth hormone, accelerate the growth of bone tissue, and is beneficial to the growth of the human body. The following exercises are effective in increasing height, so you might want to give them a try. 1. For hanging swing, use a horizontal bar or door frame. The height should be such that your body hangs on the bar and your toes just leave the ground. Hold the bar with both hands, with the distance between them slightly wider than shoulder width, put your feet together, and then swing your body back and forth. Don't swing too much and don't keep doing it for too long. It is best to arrange the exercise every morning. Relax the body as much as possible and hold it for 20 seconds. Young men should do it 10 to 15 times and young women should do it 2 to 6 times. 2. Jump up and touch the pre-set objects with both hands when jumping up, which can be roadside branches, basketball hoops or ceilings. Jump with both feet, do 30 times. Rest for a while, then jump on one foot with each foot, using the same method as above. 3. Ball games: When playing basketball, actively fight for rebounds and jump to steal the ball; when playing volleyball, try to jump up and do more spikes and blocks; in football, practice jumping up and hitting the ball with the forehead. 4. Jumping exercises include single-leg hopping, frog leaps, triple jumps, multi-level jumps and vertical jumps in place while moving.
