What to do if your child coughs and vomits

Every spring is the peak season for respiratory diseases such as colds. Not to mention children who have poor physical constitutions and are prone to catching colds, even adults are no exception and are often troubled by colds. Adults are okay as they have stronger self-control abilities, but if children cough and vomit, the various phenomena they exhibit will make people feel very scared, so the editor will summarize some methods for treating children's coughing and vomiting.

Pay attention to the following: 1. The nature of the cough 2. The time when the cough occurs. Generally, the cough worsens in the morning or at night when the body position changes. It is often caused by bronchiectasis or chronic bronchitis. 3. The sound of the cough 4. The nature of the sputum

Diseases that generally cause coughs include: 1. Chronic infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract 2. Allergic reactions, such as bronchial asthma 3. Foreign bodies and other stimuli, such as foreign bodies in the trachea or dry or cold climates, can all cause coughs. 4. Pleural diseases, such as pleurisy or compression of organs adjacent to the pleura, can also cause cough.

Nursing

For example: After a baby catches a cold, he usually has a dry cough, which is mostly caused by upper respiratory tract infection, lung infection, and laryngeal mucosal inflammation leading to congestion and stimulation of peripheral nerve receptors and coughing. Therefore, parents should pay attention to the following aspects when caring for their children.

1. Drink water in small amounts and frequently. The water temperature should not be too hot to avoid irritating the pharynx.

2. When a baby coughs violently, it is best to hold him up so that his upper body is at a 45-degree angle, and gently pat his back with your hands to loosen the secretions adhering to the trachea and facilitate coughing out;

3. Maintain air temperature. Temperature and cleanliness are very important. The room temperature should be kept at around 20-26℃, with regular ventilation and indoor humidity of 50%-70%, which is conducive to diluting sputum and coughing it out. If the air is too dry, sputum will stick to the tracheal wall and is difficult to be discharged;

4. If you have a severe cough at night, you can slightly raise the pillow to reduce the irritation of the throat by gastroesophageal reflux.

Medication

There are two types of cough medicines for babies: one that mainly acts as a expectorant and the other that mainly acts as a cough suppressant.

The expectorants sold on the market include Polygala tenuifolia syrup, ammonium oxide syrup, etc., and some cough suppressants with the effect of releasing phlegm include Tongxinning and children's cough syrup. When children have severe cough, some cough suppressants can be used. Because the cough center in children is not fully developed, the cough is stopped, but the phlegm cannot be discharged, which will cause the respiratory tract inflammation to worsen. Generally, a milder syrup such as Children's Federal Cough Syrup is used. It can relieve cough and reduce phlegm. Its syrup lubricates the mucous membrane and reduces the irritation of local mucous membrane by inflammatory secretions. In addition, Chinese medicine for relieving cough and reducing phlegm also has a good effect, such as bamboo juice, loquat paste, etc. can also be used for syndrome differentiation and treatment.

Once a child is found coughing and vomiting, parents should take the child to the hospital for examination as soon as possible. If the child has a mild cold, of course you can selectively consider whether to give an injection or take medicine, but if the child has a high fever or some other symptoms, it is recommended that you ask the doctor more questions to see how they decide and listen to their opinions.
