How to correct overbite in children

In daily life, we often see some children with irregular teeth arrangement and overbite, which makes them look very uncomfortable. In fact, there are many reasons that lead to babies having overbite, some are congenital and some are acquired. There is no way to change congenital genetics, but improper feeding habits will also affect the development of the baby's teeth. In this case, we can control and regulate it.

How to correct baby's overbite

1. Early treatment is needed during the deciduous teeth period. I have mentioned the reason before. They are afraid that it will restrict the development of the maxillary bone and affect the child's psychological development. 2. In the early stage of tooth replacement, around the age of eight, you can take an X-ray to see the development of the maxillary and mandibular bones. If there is maxillary underdevelopment, maxillary anterior traction will be needed to pull out the retracted maxillary bone.

3. In the early stage of permanent teeth, when all teeth have been replaced, if the X-ray shows that the bone age is still young and the mandible still has a great tendency to develop, then do not do anything for the time being, because the speed of our treatment cannot keep up with the speed of his abnormal growth. If the bone age is already relatively old, then the crossbite can be corrected through orthodontic treatment during adolescence.

Three reasons for the formation of overbite in infants and young children

1. It is caused by genetic factors. If one of the parents has an underbite, the baby may inherit it. This possibility accounts for 1/3;

2. Improper feeding methods. The family factors of infants and young children's deciduous teeth crossbite are that parents' feeding posture is incorrect. When parents feed, if the bottle is held too high, the child must stretch the lower jaw outward to drink milk. Over time, the lower jaw will protrude more than the upper jaw, forming a crossbite;

3. Improper parenting methods, such as allowing the baby to develop bad habits such as sucking fingers, biting lips, biting objects, sticking out the tongue, protruding the lower jaw, and using the pacifier for too long.

After reading this article, I believe that everyone will have a better understanding of how to correct baby's overbite. In addition, when a baby has overbite, it is best to detect it early and correct it early. The best time to correct it is between three and five years old. If it is delayed until adulthood, it can only be corrected through surgery.
