Can myopia in children be corrected?

Can myopia in children be corrected?

If a young child is nearsighted, it can easily lead to blurred vision, thus affecting the child’s normal learning. First of all, if you want to change your baby's myopia, it is necessary to go to an eyewear store for treatment. However, the baby's growth and development is a dynamic process. If parents can discover and treat it in advance, the child can reduce the degree of myopia through acquired changes, and parents need to supervise.

Can children's myopia be corrected?

Myopia in children can be corrected, for example by using glasses:

(1) Frame glasses. Frame glasses are the first choice for teenagers after they are diagnosed with myopia, but frame glasses can only correct vision but cannot control the development of myopia. In recent years, progressive lenses, multifocal lenses, etc. have appeared, but their effect on controlling myopia is still uncertain.

(2) Soft contact lenses. Commonly known as contact lenses, but because they may cause damage to the cornea and conjunctiva, young myopic patients must choose them carefully, wear them with caution, and have regular check-ups.

(3) Rigid gas permeable contact lenses. There are two types of lenses: OK lenses and RGP lenses. They can not only correct vision for adolescent myopia but also control or delay the progression of myopia. However, their fitting technology requires high technical requirements and are slightly expensive.

Prevention of Myopia in Children

1. Cultivate their correct reading and writing posture, and avoid lying on the table or twisting the body. The book and eyes should be kept one foot away, the body should be kept a fist (for an adult) away from the desk, and the hand should be one inch away from the tip of the pen. School desks and chairs should be suitable for students' body shapes.

2. Do not read or write for too long. Take a 10-minute break after 30-40 minutes. Look into the distance, look at more green plants, and do eye exercises. (Today’s handheld devices and computers can be used at about the same distance as reading and writing, so be careful about the time you use them.)

3. There should be appropriate lighting for writing and reading, and it is best if the light comes from the left. Do not read or write in light that is too dark or too bright to reduce the burden on students. Ensure 10 minutes of rest between classes to reduce visual fatigue.

4. Actively carry out physical exercise to ensure that students have one hour of physical activity every day.

5. Teach students to write words not too small or too densely, and not to write slanted or cursive. Don't write for too long.

6. Do eye exercises carefully.

7. When watching TV, pay attention to the height, which should be level with your line of sight; the distance between your eyes and the screen should not be less than 5 times the diagonal length of the screen; when watching TV, you should turn on a low-power electric light in the room to protect your eyesight; after watching TV for 3 to 4 hours, you should take a short break, look into the distance, and do eye exercises.

8. You should eat more foods rich in vitamin A, such as various vegetables, animal liver, egg yolk, etc. Carrots contain vitamin B, which is good for the eyes; eating more animal livers can cure night blindness.

Although myopia in children can be corrected, it will always cause great harm to children. Therefore, it is important to prevent myopia. Pay special attention not to let children frequently use electronic products such as mobile phones, computers, and televisions. At the beginning, children’s myopia is still pseudomyopia. As long as the adjustment is done well, the myopia can be improved. If it is not treated in time, it may cause true myopia.
