Why does my child suddenly become sleepy?

Sleepiness refers to the patient's abnormal sleep. They often feel sleepy and their sleep time exceeds the normal range, and they will show pathological manifestations. Such patients usually do not like to exercise, and their physical constitution becomes very weak. They may suddenly fall asleep while talking, eating, or driving, so it is very dangerous. Why does a child suddenly become sleepy?

As the name suggests, narcolepsy means being extremely sleepy. It is a neurological disease that can cause uncontrollable sleep.

And the time of occurrence is uncontrollable, for example; while talking, eating or driving. You can fall into a sound sleep. Although sleep can occur at any time, it most often occurs during periods of inactivity or monotonous, repetitive activity. When it occurs during periods of activity, it has the potential to be dangerous.

Do not take children's sleepiness lightly. If the following seven situations occur, consult a doctor or go to the hospital as soon as possible.

1. Children are drowsy and have symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting without diarrhea, and difficulty in flexing the neck. It could be meningitis or encephalitis. Meningitis is inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain or brain marrow, while encephalitis is inflammation of the brain itself. Both diseases are possible.

2. Children become drowsy due to accidental ingestion of adult medicines, alcohol or poisonous food. Emergency, possibly poisoning! Poisoning caused by certain substances can cause drowsiness.

3. The child has taken certain medications. Certain medications, such as antihistamines used to treat allergic disorders, can cause mild drowsiness. Discuss this with your doctor.

4. The child has recently suffered a head injury. In emergencies, severe head injuries may cause drowsiness due to bleeding.

5. Children are drowsy and have diarrhea. It could be dehydration. Persistent diarrhea, especially when accompanied by vomiting, may cause dehydration, and the primary cause may be a gastrointestinal infection.

6. The child is drowsy and has a rash on some part of the body. Skin rash is a common disease in early childhood. Please consult your doctor for details about rashes and psoriasis.

7. The child is drowsy and often feels thirsty, urinates a lot, or feels unusually tired or has lost weight recently. Too much sugar in the blood is a result of diabetes and can cause drowsiness. Diabetes develops when there is not enough insulin in the body.
