Is rotavirus lethargy dangerous?

Is rotavirus lethargy dangerous?

Rotavirus invasion is the most common problem in children. Now is the peak period of rotavirus infection. The most obvious symptom of patients infected with this virus is diarrhea. In addition, some babies will experience drowsiness, poor mental state and other phenomena after becoming ill. It is necessary to understand the impact of rotavirus invasion so that we can actively treat it.

What to do if your baby becomes sleepy after contracting rotavirus

There is currently no specific drug for treating rotavirus diarrhea. Generally, symptomatic treatment is used to correct the child's dehydration and acidosis. For children with mild diarrhea symptoms, oral rehydration can be used to correct them. The commonly used one is the oral rehydration salt recommended by the World Health Organization. The formula is 3.5 grams of sodium chloride, 2.5 grams of sodium bicarbonate, 1.5 grams of potassium hydride, 20 grams of glucose and 1000 milliliters of water. Children can drink it as water.

Children with more severe symptoms can be treated with intravenous infusion to correct dehydration and acidosis, while taking dipyridamole orally. In recent years, interferon (IFN) has also been used to treat rotavirus infection. This drug can inhibit the reproduction of the virus in the human body, thereby alleviating symptoms and shortening the course of the disease.

If a newborn baby suffers from autumn diarrhea, the baby should continue to be breastfed. About 90% of breast milk contains anti-rotavirus antibodies, which can alleviate symptoms or shorten the course of the disease.

There are also many good folk remedies for treating rotavirus diarrhea. Earlier in Southeast Asia, rice soup was used instead of glucose oral solution and achieved good therapeutic effects. In our country, some people have used burnt rice or millet to make rice soup, which can be taken orally instead of rehydration agents, and achieved obvious results.

The specific production method is: fry rice or millet over low heat until it turns brown, then add water and cook into porridge, filter out the rice grains, and feed the child with the rice soup.

The roasted rice grains have been partially carbonized, which can absorb toxins and stop diarrhea. You can also add scorched rice soup instead of water to the oral liquid recommended by the World Health Organization for children to drink. If there is no oral rehydration solution, you can add 3.5 grams of salt, 2 grams of baking soda, and 30 grams of white sugar to every 1000 ml of scorched rice soup and drink it.

The starch, vitamins and other minerals in rice soup can supplement children's nutrition and help recover their gastrointestinal function. It is currently the most ideal treatment method.

Rotavirus transmission route

Rotavirus is transmitted by the fecal-oral route, through contact with soiled hands, surfaces, and objects, and can be transmitted by the respiratory route. Each gram of feces from an infected patient can contain more than 100 trillion infectious virus particles, of which only 10 to 100 can be transmitted to infect another person.

Rotavirus is stable in the natural environment and has been found in estuarine samples at concentrations of 1 to 5 infectious rotavirus particles per US gallon. Sanitation systems that eliminate bacteria and parasites appear to be ineffective for rotavirus control, as the incidence of rotavirus infection is similar in countries with high and low sanitation levels.
