How to measure the temperature correctly when the baby has a fever but is in good spirits

For babies, if the fever does not exceed 39 degrees, the child is generally in good spirits. Therefore, parents should observe their children frequently. When the child's temperature exceeds 37 degrees, although the child is in good spirits, it has already caused harm to the child's body. Everyone wants to know how to measure the temperature normally when a child has a fever but is in good spirits. The following is an introduction so you can have a comprehensive understanding.

The body temperature we usually refer to is the surface temperature of the body. In order to more accurately reflect the body temperature, the surface temperature is usually measured through the external auditory canal or through the armpit. When the body temperature is >38.5℃, the child should be cooled down.

The temperature inside the mouth and anus is closer to the body temperature. The body temperature is slightly higher than the surface temperature, so if the oral or rectal temperature exceeds 39°C, the child must be cooled down.

When a child has a fever, parents should not worry too much about which thermometer is more accurate. In fact, the measurement method determines the accuracy of the thermometer. If measuring axillary temperature, the armpit must form a small closed space, and the thermometer must be placed in the small space to obtain accurate temperature. If using an ear thermometer, the probe must completely seal the external auditory canal to obtain an accurate ear temperature. Rectal temperature measurement is more accurate because it is well sealed, but it is not convenient for regular home use.

Based on the characteristics of infants and young children, and taking into account factors such as speed, accuracy, and safety, the simplest method recommended at home is to use an ear thermometer. Before measurement, parents should gently pull the auricle outward to completely block the external auditory canal with the thermometer, and then start measurement. If the measured temperature exceeds 38.5℃, the child should be cooled down.

The child is in good spirits when he has a fever. There are many ways to take the child's temperature, such as taking the child's temperature under the armpit or anus. These are very safe, and the test temperature is more standard when measuring the temperature in this way. Therefore, when your child has a fever, if the fever is too high, it is recommended to go to the hospital for comprehensive treatment to avoid serious harm to the child's health.
