What to do if your child grinds his teeth while sleeping

Grinding teeth while sleeping is a problem that troubles many people, but it also happens to many children, and even babies over one year old will grind their teeth. So what is the reason for teeth grinding and how should we solve it? These are all things we need to understand. Especially if the baby's teeth grinding is severe, it is best to go to the hospital for a comprehensive examination so as not to delay the baby's healthy growth.

If a child occasionally grinds his teeth, it may be caused by abnormal movement of the chewing muscles and is not pathological. If you grind your teeth frequently, it is an abnormal behavior. An unreasonable diet can also cause teeth grinding.

If you eat too much at dinner or eat too much before going to bed, it may cause nocturnal teeth grinding. This is due to unreasonable dietary distribution, which not only affects the absorption and utilization of nutrients, but also increases the burden on the digestive tract. When you fall asleep, if there is still a large amount of undigested food accumulated in the gastrointestinal tract, the entire digestive system will be forced to "work overtime at night", and even the chewing muscles will be mobilized, involuntarily contracting and causing teeth grinding. Therefore, you should not eat too much at dinner and make sure to do some proper exercise after the meal.

People are in the period of replacing teeth between the ages of 6 and 13, and they will grind their teeth to adapt to the grinding of the upper and lower teeth. When the upper and lower teeth just erupt, the bite position of the teeth has not been completely determined, and there will be some inappropriateness between the teeth, such as unevenness or the new teeth are too sharp. At this time, the inappropriate parts of the contact between the teeth can be worn away by grinding. Therefore, for children who are in the period of eruption of deciduous teeth and replacement of deciduous permanent teeth, bruxism at night is an activity that is in the process of establishing a normal chewing relationship and is a normal physiological phenomenon.

Prevention and treatment methods:

1. Avoid children from getting overly excited during the day. They should relax before going to bed and avoid watching stimulating TV programs.

2. Go to the hospital to check for intestinal parasitic diseases. If yes, deworming should be done under the guidance of a doctor.

3. For stubborn cases, a jaw pad should be made and worn while sleeping to prevent direct wear of teeth.

4. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment is very effective and can be treated with Xuanfeng Decoction. Its composition: 15 grams each of betel nut and tangerine peel, 30 grams of black morning glory seeds (fried, only the powder is taken), and 15 grams of roasted licorice. Grind them into fine powder, take 2 to 3 grams each time, and mix with honey water. Take on an empty stomach. It's worth a try.
