Physical therapy for fever in children

Physical therapy for fever in children

Fever has always been one of the common symptoms of illness. In fact, not all fevers require going to the hospital for injections and intravenous drips. Sometimes simple physical therapy for reducing fever can easily reduce the child's fever without any side effects on the body. . However, many people find that they are not clear about antipyretic physical therapy, so today I will introduce you to the relevant knowledge of antipyretic physical therapy in detail.

1. Please note: There should be an interval of more than 4 hours between taking antipyretic drugs.

The commonly used antipyretic drug for children is "Motrin" (ibuprofen suspension), and it is best to use Tylenol (acetaminophen suspension) for children under three years old.

While taking antipyretics, children should be given plenty of water to help them sweat, promote diuresis and detoxify. The interval between taking antipyretic drugs should not be less than 4 hours. If you are in a hurry to reduce the fever, taking too much medicine at one time or taking it at too short an interval can cause your body temperature to drop too quickly, causing excessive sweating and leading to collapse.

Some children are allergic to certain drugs, so do not abuse antipyretics. It is best to take them according to the doctor's prescription.

2. There are many types of physical cooling methods

The working principle of the cooling patch is mainly that the moisture contained in the gelatinous part can absorb and dissipate heat, thereby achieving a cooling effect.

Fan cooling

Method: Use plastic film to make a palm-sized pocket and fill it with ice water or small ice cubes. You can put ice cubes in a basin of water and shake them to smooth out the edges. Place a small bag of ice on the child's forehead, armpits, and thighs. You can also make a hat-shaped ice bag and place it on the child's head, or soak a towel in cold water, squeeze it dry, and place it on the forehead for a cold compress.

Note that when using ice packs for local cooling, it should not be applied for too long. In addition, cold therapy is prohibited behind the head, on the auricle, on the scrotum, in front of the heart, on the abdomen, and on the soles of the feet.

Cooling patch

The cooling patch is an improvement over cold compress. It can be applied at night and maintained until morning, which is beneficial for children with fever and their parents to have a good night's rest. It can achieve a cooling effect for up to 10 hours.

The air from an electric fan can accelerate the dissipation of body temperature, but it should not be directed at a certain part of the child's body, otherwise the child's body will catch a cold. You can use an electric fan to blow sideways wind or an oscillating electric fan. The wind force should not be too strong and the time should not be too long. It is suitable for children with good physical fitness and high body temperature in summer.
