Why do newborn babies have black lips?

The black lips of a newborn may be due to lack of oxygen during the delivery process, or it may be due to congenital heart disease. It also cannot be ruled out that it is due to pigmentation in the lip area.

1. Lack of oxygen during delivery: If the delivery process lasts too long, the fetus may experience hypoxia in the uterine cavity or intestines. In this case, the newborn will have black lips after birth. Symptoms can be improved by timely supplementation of oxygen. At the same time, attention should be paid to clearing the infant's airway to ensure normal airway function.

2. Congenital heart disease: Black lips in newborns may be a symptom of hypoxia caused by congenital heart disease, or it may be caused by incomplete closure of the lower half of the heart membrane. It can be ruled out in time by doing a color Doppler ultrasound examination of the heart. After the diagnosis is confirmed, heart valve closure surgery can usually be performed when the child is a little older.

3. Lip pigmentation: The color of each person's lips is different. If the parents have dark lips, the child may also have black lips after birth. This is a normal physiological phenomenon. Generally, no special treatment is required and it will not affect the health of the body.

After the birth of a newborn, you should pay attention to warm care and observe the baby's physical health in time. If any abnormality is found, seek medical attention in time.
