Diagnosis and treatment of fetal hydrocele

Diagnosis and treatment of fetal hydrocele

Fetal hydrocele refers to the accumulation of excess fluid between the two layers of the tunica vaginalis of the testis. Most hydroceles have no obvious cause and are called primary hydrocele. Its occurrence and development are slow. Hydrocele caused by scrotal trauma, inflammation or tumor of the testicles and epididymis, and filariasis is called secondary hydrocele. It often has symptoms of the primary lesion. Let’s take a look at the diagnosis and treatment of fetal testicular hydrocele with the editor below!

1. Diagnosis of fetal hydrocele

Children with hydrocele generally have no systemic symptoms. Most of the time, family members discover a lump in the groin or scrotum on one side, or a local lump on both sides. It grows slowly and does not cause pain. When the lump is large, there may be a feeling of heaviness and distension. Because the processus vaginalis is relatively small, the fluid flowing into the patent tunica vaginalis cavity is not easy to flow back into the abdominal cavity, so the mass does not change significantly in size. If the opening of the unclosed sheath is relatively thick, after lying flat all night, you will see that the lump has shrunk in the morning.

The diagnosis can be made by clinical examination of a clearly demarcated cystic mass in the lateral groin or scrotum with no obvious pedicle connecting it to the abdominal cavity and a positive transillumination test. Depending on the location, there are two types of hydrocele: spermatic cord and testicular hydrocele.

1. The mass of hydrocele is limited to the spermatic cord. It is generally small in size and oval in shape. The testicles can be clearly felt below the mass. The mass can be moved by pulling the testicles.

2. The hydrocele of the testicle hangs at the bottom of the scrotum and is oval or round in shape. If the mass has a lot of tension, the testicles generally cannot be palpated. The light transmission test was positive.

2. Treatment Methods

Hydrocele in newborn babies usually disappears on its own before the age of two, so there is no need to rush for treatment. If it does not disappear after two years of age. Then perform puncture and fluid extraction. Most cases do not recur after aspiration.

If the above options do not cure the disease, other treatment options may be considered. Miao medicine believes that kidney deficiency will lead to poor qi transformation and internal retention of water and dampness. When the spleen is weak and the liver is depressed, the meridians will be blocked, and water and dampness will flow down and gather in the anterior genitals. This disease will occur when the three organs are weak. Trauma and infection can easily cause blood stasis and blockage of collaterals, and water retention can also lead to this disease.

After the fetus is born, the processus vaginalis of the entire spermatic cord from the internal ring to the testis gradually shrinks and cuts off. The processus vaginalis of the testis forms the sac-like tunica vaginalis proper of the testis. There is only a small amount of serous fluid in the normal tunica vaginalis cavity. When the secretion and absorption functions of the tunica vaginalis lose balance, hydrocele may occur. After reading the editor’s introduction, do parents have a clear idea in mind?
