Baby's lower teeth cover the upper

Many parents find that their baby's teeth are not as beautiful as those of ordinary children. Often the upper teeth cover the lower ones. This is called overbite, which also means crossbite. This is a type of tooth that needs to be corrected, otherwise it will cause problems with the child's eating or personal image in the future.

"Overbite" is a crossbite. The normal occlusal relationship is that the upper incisors cover the lower incisors, while overbite means that the lower incisors are outside the upper incisors. Common factors that cause crossbite are:

① For bottle-fed babies, when they lie on their backs and drink milk from a bottle, the bottle presses on the upper lip and the lower jaw sucks forward forcefully, which can easily cause a crossbite of the front teeth in the long run.

② Having bad oral habits, such as biting the upper lip by protruding the lower jaw.

③Genetic factors. Crossbite in children not only affects facial appearance, but also can cause chewing disorders and slurred speech, which has a great impact on children's physiology and psychology.

The following aspects can be used for prevention:

①Encourage breastfeeding. Children who can only be bottle-fed should feed in a side-lying position and should not develop the habit of feeding on their backs.

②Help children correct bad oral habits.

③See if there are any problems with the dentist and guide early correction. Baby experts answer:

1. Parents can use a small wooden board that is 10 cm long, 3 mm thick, and slightly narrower than the crossbite incisors. Place one end of the board between the inner side of the upper incisors and the cutting edge of the lower incisors. Hold the other end of the board with your hand and press down as much as necessary until the board begins to bend.

2. Practice 20-30 times each time, twice a day, morning and evening. Generally, the correction can be achieved in 2-3 weeks.

3. If it is ineffective, you can go to the dentist to use oral braces for correction after the age of four.
