What are the symptoms of low muscle tone?

What are the symptoms of low muscle tone?

I believe many people are not very familiar with low muscle tone. Hypotonia is a common disease that has a huge impact on patients, because it not only affects the patient's life and future, but is also a major burden on the patient's family. Hypotonia is also known as cerebral palsy. The patient's performance is often sympathetic, and the same is true for children's hypotonia, which adds a lot of burden to many families. Let’s take a look at what exactly makes people sad.

1. Abnormal posture: Children with cerebral palsy have a variety of abnormal postures, which are related to abnormal muscle tone and delayed disappearance of primitive reflexes. It is the most obvious manifestation of cerebral palsy in children.

1. Prone position: Due to the delayed disappearance of the tonic labyrinthine reflex, the manifestations of low muscle tone are as follows: in infancy (after 3 to 4 months), the flexor muscle tone is significantly increased when in prone position, the limbs are flexed, and the buttocks are higher than the head; or the head cannot be raised, the upper limbs cannot support the trunk, the shoulders are planted on the bed, and the buttocks are raised high; or the upper limbs are internally rotated and flexed, the hands are clenched into fists, the lower limbs are straight, adducted and internally rotated, and the toes are facing inward; it can also be manifested as one-sided abnormality, with flexion of the elbow and wrist of one upper limb.

2. Supine position: head tilted back, lower limbs extended, sometimes in opisthotonos position. Due to the prolonged duration of the asymmetric neck tension reflex, when the head turns to one side, the upper and lower limbs on one side of the occipital region are flexed, while the upper and lower limbs on one side of the face are straightened. Sometimes in a reflexive posture. Sometimes both lower limbs are straightened. The limbs have low muscle tension. When lying on the back, the wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles and other joints can be placed flat on the bed at the same time, forming a frog-like supine position.

3. From the supine position: Children with cerebral palsy may have their trunk pulled up, but the head droops back; one lower limb is straightened with plantar flexion of the foot; both lower limbs are straightened with plantar flexion of the foot, one upper limb is normal with elbow flexion, and the other side is straightened; when pulled, they can directly stand up without sitting; the head droops back extremely, with dorsiflexion of the spine.

4. Upright position: When children with cerebral palsy are standing upright, their lower limbs are often internally rotated, straightened, and their toes are drooping. Due to the increased tension of the adductor muscles of the lower limbs, the legs are crossed in a scissor shape. When children with cerebral palsy stand upright, their head, spine, and heels often cannot be kept in a vertical line. Low muscle tone may cause scoliosis of the hip and waist; or the two thighs may be internally rotated, the knees semi-flexed, the lower limbs in an X shape, and the toes touching the ground.

2. Delayed motor development and reduced active movements are manifestations of cerebral palsy in children and require great attention.

The above are the manifestations of muscle tone in children, so through our introduction, more people can understand what low muscle tone is like. With the development of science and technology, the methods of treating low muscle tone are also constantly improving. Therefore, if there are patients with low muscle tone at home, you must treat the patients patiently and actively take the patients to the hospital for examination and treatment.
