Children sleeping independently

Children sleeping independently

Children sleep with their parents when they are very young, but when they reach a certain age, they start to sleep in separate rooms from their parents because parents need to train their children to develop independent living habits, and this living habit must first start with sleeping independently. Children will feel very uncomfortable when they first start sleeping independently, and some may even be very scared. Let's take a look at how to let children sleep independently.

1. Let your child adapt slowly and don’t be too impatient

If you want your child to sleep independently, you should learn to proceed step by step. First, you can accompany your child, play with him/her to dispel his/her anxiety, and leave after the baby falls asleep; after the baby adapts, parents can tell the story and stay away from the baby to accompany him/her to sleep, and then stay a little further away, and slowly the baby will adapt.

1. Let your children participate in the design of the children's room

To let children sleep independently, the sleeping space is very important. In simple terms, children must love this place. Therefore, how to design the children's room and how to make children like it can all refer to the children's opinions and focus on them. In this way, the baby will feel more accomplished and like this place more after decorating his own little room, so he is willing to sleep here, because here are all his favorite things to accompany him, and he feels very safe.

2. Parents must be decisive and efficient

After parents have coaxed their baby to sleep, they should leave immediately. They should not think that the baby is too cute or worry that they are not doing well and stay to observe and be reluctant to leave. This will only increase the child's sense of attachment. Because children are very familiar with the smell of their parents and are even less likely to fall asleep on their own when their parents are around, so once the baby falls asleep, you must leave the baby's bedroom immediately.

Explain to your children that there are no ghosts or gods in the world and that things in dreams are fake. Darkness is not scary. People’s fear of darkness is mainly because their eyes cannot receive feedback from the surrounding environment, which creates a sense of insecurity in the unknown space. This is very normal and there is no need to think that your child is timid or unable to overcome this fear.

Take your children out to play in darker environments more often to help them adapt psychologically. For example, in the summer evening, when it just gets dark, take your children out for a walk and play. When at home, you should also encourage your children to go to a dark room to get toys, food, etc. by themselves.

3. Desensitization training. If your child is afraid of the dark, then slowly accept it. For example, stay in a dark room with him for a while, and then encourage him to stay there for 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, etc., and tell him that nothing in the dark can hurt him because he is at home and home is safe. As the time goes by, you will no longer be afraid after experiencing more, and you will feel that darkness is nothing special.
