What should I do if my child has a hoarse voice?

Hoarseness occurs not only in adults but also in children. Children's physical constitution is much worse than that of adults, and they are more likely to catch a cold, so their throats are often hoarse. In addition, children are energetic and often shout, which may cause throat strain and hoarseness. Therefore, if parents find that their children have a hoarse voice, they must seek timely treatment. So, what should we do if our children have a hoarse voice?

When it comes to hoarseness in children, two situations need to be distinguished. One situation is the hoarseness caused by the vocal cords' severe friction due to children's loud screams or shouts, which causes the vocal cord effect. Another situation is the hoarseness caused by acute laryngitis complicated by upper respiratory tract infection. For the former situation, the main thing is to rest and not scream loudly. You can take Chinese patent medicines for clearing heat and detoxifying, such as Lanqin Oral Liquid, Pudilan Oral Liquid, and Huang's Xiangsheng Pills, but the most important thing is not to scream loudly.

If hoarseness is caused by acute laryngitis, it is necessary to see whether there is difficulty in breathing. If you have difficulty breathing, you must go to the hospital emergency room for control. For laryngitis without acute breathing difficulties, you can take antibiotics, Chinese patent medicines for clearing heat and detoxifying, and you can also undergo nebulizer inhalation treatment.

Another common disease in children is papilloma. For long-term hoarseness, an electronic laryngoscopy can be performed. If laryngeal papilloma-like lesions are found on the vocal cords, the diagnosis can basically be confirmed. For children's laryngeal papilloma lesions, they may heal on their own by puberty. Therefore, if laryngeal papilloma does not cause obvious breathing difficulties in childhood, even if there is hoarseness, it does not cause obvious breathing difficulties, and there is no obvious increase in size, etc., it can be observed without surgical treatment. If it affects breathing, surgical treatment is still required, but it is easy to relapse after surgery.
