Causes of stomachache and fever in children

Causes of stomachache and fever in children

I believe that everyone will encounter such a situation in life, especially friends with children at home, who are more likely to encounter this situation, that is: the child has abdominal pain. We usually say stomach pain, of course not only that, there is also a series of situations such as fever caused by abdominal pain. So how did this situation come about? Let’s discuss it together.

There are many diseases that can cause abdominal pain in children:

1. Intestinal ascariasis. It is the most common cause of chronic abdominal pain in children. It is more common in children over two years old. It is characterized by intermittent pain around the umbilicus, which is generally not severe and occurs at irregular times. When there is no pain, the patient is generally in good condition. Most of them have a history of ascariasis.

2. Indigestion, acute gastroenteritis, dysentery. Abdominal pain often occurs before defecation and is generally not severe. Vomiting and diarrhea are the main symptoms.

3. Intestinal spasms. They often occur suddenly and are very painful. Infants cry violently, their hands and feet become cold, their hands are clenched, and their legs are pulled toward their abdomen. They can be quickly relieved by taking belladonna antispasmodics.

4. Biliary ascariasis. The onset is sudden, manifested by severe upper abdominal pain. During the attack, the patient cries and rolls around, often accompanied by vomiting, and sometimes vomits out ascaris.

5. Intussusception. It is more common in infants aged 4 to 10 months. The disease starts suddenly, with symptoms of paroxysmal crying and pale complexion. Then vomiting and red jam-like stools occur. Sausage-like masses can be felt in the abdomen of the sick child.

6. Acute appendicitis. Symptoms include sudden abdominal pain, first around the umbilicus, then shifting to the right lower abdomen a few hours later, often accompanied by vomiting and fever.

7. Intestinal obstruction. Symptoms include paroxysmal abdominal pain, frequent vomiting, and no bowel movements. The shape of the intestinal tube can be seen in the abdomen, and a strip-like mass can be felt by hand.

8. Incarcerated hernia. It is more common in boys under 2 years old, with symptoms of sudden paroxysmal crying, abdominal pain, vomiting, and swelling in the thigh or vulva.

If you find your child has abdominal pain, you should pay attention to:

① Do not eat for the time being, which can reduce the gastrointestinal burden, reduce gastrointestinal motility, allow the gastrointestinal tract to rest, and relieve abdominal pain.

② Do not take painkillers casually, as they can mask the symptoms of the disease and delay diagnosis, especially for children suspected of having acute surgical abdomen. Painkillers should not be used indiscriminately.

③ Closely observe changes in the condition and go to the hospital for treatment in time.

I believe that through the introduction of the above article, everyone has a general understanding of the causes of children's stomach pain and fever, right? We all must pay more attention to children's conditions in our lives. Once we find any abnormalities in them, we must seek treatment as soon as possible to avoid the occurrence of more diseases.
