What is aspiration pneumonia in children

I believe everyone knows the importance of lungs to us. Our lungs are the main respiratory organs. If there is a problem with the lungs, it will cause many harms to our bodies and even threaten our lives. Therefore, we must pay attention to lung care in our daily lives. Once a lung disease occurs, we must seek treatment in time. Pediatric aspiration pneumonia is a type of lung disease. Below we will introduce in detail what pediatric aspiration pneumonia is.

Causes

Including inhalation of amniotic fluid, meconium, breast milk, etc. It is mainly because hypoxia stimulates fetal breathing, causing the fetus to inhale amniotic fluid and meconium, causing aspiration pneumonia; milk aspiration is common in swallowing dysfunction, vomiting after sucking, esophageal atresia, cleft lip, cleft palate, etc. Among them, meconium aspiration pneumonia is the most serious.

【Clinical manifestations】

Patients with amniotic fluid or meconium aspiration often have a history of asphyxia, and may experience rapid breathing or difficulty breathing accompanied by cyanosis and groaning during resuscitation or after birth. The condition of patients with meconium aspiration is often serious, which can cause respiratory failure, atelectasis, emphysema, pulmonary hypertension and central nervous system manifestations of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Once pneumothorax or mediastinal emphysema occurs, the condition may suddenly deteriorate and even lead to death. Those who inhale milk often choke and cough while feeding, with milk flowing out of the mouth and nose, accompanied by shortness of breath, cyanosis, etc. In severe cases, it may lead to suffocation.

Chest X-ray examination showed thickening of lung texture on both sides and emphysema. Patients with meconium aspiration often have obvious obstructive pulmonary emphysema and irregular patches or coarse nodular shadows in both lungs.

【Treatment principles】

Clear the inhaled material as quickly as possible, give oxygen, keep warm, limit fluid volume appropriately, correct acidosis, apply antibiotics and provide symptomatic treatment.

In the above article, we introduced a very harmful lung disease, that is, pediatric aspiration pneumonia. We know that the occurrence of pediatric aspiration pneumonia brings many troubles to patients, so we must do a good job in preventing pediatric aspiration pneumonia. The above article introduces the causes and clinical manifestations of pediatric aspiration pneumonia in detail.
