Clinical manifestations of herpetic stomatitis in babies

Babies are the apple of their parents' eyes. If the baby has some diseases, the parents will definitely be very worried. Therefore, we recommend that parents should do a good job of daily care for the baby. If you want to take good care of the baby, the most important thing parents need to do is to learn more about common baby diseases. Herpetic stomatitis is a disease that babies are prone to. Below we introduce the clinical manifestations of herpetic stomatitis.

Herpetic stomatitis is a multiple acute oral mucosal infectious disease caused by the herpes simplex virus. It is clinically characterized by the appearance of clustered small blisters, is self-limited, and is prone to recurrence. It is common in winter and spring, and infants and young children aged 6 months to 3 years are susceptible to this disease, and the course of the disease generally lasts 7 to 14 days.

Sometimes it is not that the baby has a cold. Infants and young children suffering from herpetic stomatitis always have a fever first and then a sore mouth. The fever often occurs suddenly (above 39°C), and they drool, cry, and are unwilling to eat. At the beginning, there are no obvious lesions in the mouth and it is often mistaken for a cold. After 2 to 3 days, the child's gums, tongue, cheeks and lip mucosa will become red and swollen, with small erythema with clear boundaries appearing. Then, small blisters the size of a needle tip will form densely packed clusters on the basis of the erythema, and ulcers will form after rupture. At this time, the body temperature will gradually drop. Due to the obvious pain, children often refuse to eat and drink. Some children often have bleeding gums and similar lesions on the skin around the lips and corners of the mouth. Herpetic stomatitis belongs to the category of "mouth sores" in traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that this disease is mainly caused by heat accumulation in the spleen and stomach, and the upward inflammation of virtual fire, which burns the mouth and tongue and causes oral and tongue erosions.

The common causes of herpetic stomatitis include exogenous factors, food injury factors and deficiency of vital energy factors.

Clinical manifestations

1. Acute onset, fever, often accompanied by respiratory symptoms such as nasal congestion and runny nose, anorexia, drooling, irritability and other discomforts;

2. Oral mucosa congestion, red and swollen gums, herpes can be distributed on the tongue, inner lips, cheeks and palate, etc., initially as small red spots, quickly turned into herpes, the size of rice grains, surrounded by red halos, and later formed superficial ulcers. If there are many ulcers, they can gather into groups and merge with each other, causing fever, body temperature can reach 39-40℃, and obvious pain;

3. May be accompanied by streptococcal or staphylococcal infection, significant oral pain, increased salivation, red, swollen and cracked lips, often accompanied by swollen submandibular lymph nodes;

4. The course of the disease is long, the fever may last for 5 to 7 days, the ulcer will heal within 1 to 2 weeks, and the swollen lymph nodes will subside within 2 to 3 weeks.
